Usual Sunday Mass Attended______________

Dear Parishioners,

From time to time throughout the year I hope to highlight some of the work the various commissions, committees, organizations and associations of our parish.  There is a risk I may miss some group but nevertheless I am willing to take it.   This week I want to highlight the Vocation Committee, Education Commission and Building and Grounds Commission.   The Vocation Committee, whose executive secretary is our seminarian intern Ron Haft, promotes vocations and oversees the Traveling Chalice program.  The Education Commission evaluates our faith formation programs (eg. our parish school, PREP, adults) and recommends a possible course of action.  Our Principal, Director of Religious Education and I regularly attend the meetings.  The Building and Grounds Commission, whose executive secretary is Peggy James, the parish business manager, oversees the maintenance of our parish plant.   These groups are meeting soon before or after you have read this.  Their work is reported  to parish council, whose minutes are posted on the parish website.  All of us, both clergy and parishioners owe all of the above a debt of gratitude for their generous donation of time and talent to our parish.  Thank you for all that you do for us.  Fr. Christopher R. Armstrong

MARCH MISSION: Fr. Burger will preach our parish mission the Tuesdays of March 7, 14, 21 and 28th, at 7:30 PM.  Please plan to attend.

NITE AT THE RACES, MONTE CARLO AND TEXAS HOLD-EM TOURNAMENT will be on Saturday, February 18, 2006 in the St. Antoninus undercroft.  Event starts at 7 PM to midnight, with the Texas Hold-em starting at 6 PM.  If you would like to help or have any questions, call Doug Rolfes at 451-9737 or 451-4800.  Look for tickets and race forms in the mail and the school white envelopes.

A  PILGRIMAGE TO ROME?

Sometime ago, some parishioners have suggested that I lead a pilgrimage to Rome.  I have contacted Best Catholic Pilgrimage, which the Archdiocese used for its Jubilee Pilgrimage, 2000.  Tentatively, it would include four days in Rome, one day in Assisi and three days in Florence, where the patron of our parish, St. Antoninus’ incorrupted body is enshrined.  The approximate cost would be $2,495, (double occupancy), including air fare and most meals.  The tour would begin around September 15 and conclude September 25, 2006.  More details will be forthcoming.

BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMISSION meeting will be on January 9th at 7:30 PM in the Holy Family Room.  All are invited to attend.

THE EDUCATION COMMISSION will meet on January 9, 2006, at 7:30 PM in the school conference room.  Visitors are always welcome.  If you have any items for the agenda or if you have any questions, please call Bev Meyer at 451-1212.

FROM THE PARISH BUSINESS OFFICE

There will be a change to the Sunday collection envelopes starting in January.  The family name will be removed from all envelopes except the top one for mailing.   This change allows more secure handling of personal information.  Your envelope number will continue to be the key information used to track all contributions.

Also, anyone interested in using electronic checking to make their regular contributions directly to St. Antoninus Church is welcomed and encouraged to do so.  If there are any questions, please contact Peggy James in the parish office.

ST. A 100 DRAWING

WINNER FOR THE WEEK OF January 2nd

Carolyn Kerley

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

This Thursday and Friday, a team of five educators will be visiting our school to look over our plans for continual improvement and verify the fact that St. Antoninus is in compliance with the standards set forth by the Ohio Catholic School Accreditation Association (OCSAA).  This is the format for accreditation of Catholic schools that is approved by the Ohio Department of Education.  If this team has any recommendations for our plan, our committee will review these for inclusion or dismissal.  We then submit our final plan to the state level OCSAA committee.  Upon their approval, St. Antoninus School is accredited for the next four years.  All Catholic schools in the state of Ohio use this same process.  I am grateful for your continued support of our efforts.  Jim L.

CHILD PROTECTION DECREE ORIENTATION MEETING All regular volunteers, employees and clerics are required to attend an orientation meeting unless they have done so since August, 2003. The next meeting will be held in the Holy Family Room of the undercroft on January 18, at 1:00 p.m.

THE ATHLETIC CLUB’S meeting will take place on Thursday, January 12th in the Youth room in the Undercroft. All are invited to attend. In addition, anyone interested in becoming a candidate for the Athletic Club Board in 2006 is asked to contact Jack Scott at 922-3015. Thank you.

THE HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

The month of January has been dedicated by the Prayer Group to “Footsteps in Faith”. In consideration of that, George Schmidl will speak to us on Tuesday about Jesus’ – “Great Command”.  Actually there are two, based upon His instructions to us in scripture.  The first, from Matthew, tells us to love God and love one another.  The second, at the Ascension, tells us to make disciples of all the world and obey all the commandments. It is not enough for us to keep Jesus to ourselves.  Rather, by word and example we bring Him to others.    In chapel at 7:30 PM.

Beginning January 1, 2006, Fr. Jim Willig’s “The Gospel Today” will air every Sunday morning at 7:30 AM on WCKY 1530 AM.

ROE VS. WADE is a travesty – an extreme case of judicial arrogance and constitutional invention – worthy of repeal.
