Usual Sunday Mass Attended______________

Dear Parishioners,

On Thursday, March 9, Archbishop Pilarczyk confirmed the seventh graders-

from our Parish School, our Parish School of Religion and our home schoolers - of St. Antoninus Parish.  At one point in the ceremony he asked if they were will-instructed.  Indeed, they were and I want to thank all of those who had a hand in the preparation of our confirmani especially their parents who are and will always be “the first teachers of their children in the ways of faith” (Rite of Infant Baptism).

Another respect of the Archbishop’s visit is his examination of the sacramental records.  When our parish secretary was setting them out, she handed me a bound copy of the “Constitution, By-laws and Minutes of the Holy Name Society of St. Antoninus, September 11, 1944 to April 10, 1967.”  It has been a fascinating read.  The minutes cover everything: lists of those parishioners in the armed services; baseball teams “a parish team and a team capable of outside competition”; “the size of the turkey to be raffled” at the Fall Festival; “making the Way of the Cross to keep alive the efforts of the retreat” at the Passionist Monastery on Mt. Adams.  It is a reminder of what a great parish St. Antoninus, was, is and will be!

THE ST. JOSEPH STEWARDSHIP QUIZ

Norb Guetle, (President of the Finance Council) Peggy James, (Business Manager) and I attended a stewardship seminar.  We shared our learning’s with the chairs of the PTO, Athletic Club and Ways and Means.  One of those learning’s was a 10 point True/False Quiz on Stewardship by Charles Kech.  I thought it might be fun to put a true/false question in the bulletin each week and then its answer in the following week’s bulletin.  The quiz is dedicated to St. Joseph, who as head of the Holy Family, had to see to the temporal and spiritual needs of Mary and Jesus.  St. Joseph is the model of Catholic Stewardship.  We will honor him in a special way at Mass on Monday, March 20.  (His feast was transferred from March 19 because the date fell on a Sunday).

True or False: 1) While no church is entirely satisfied with the amount that their members contribute, Catholics contribute to their parish at about the same rate as Protestants.

CD AND CASSETTE TAPES on Fr. Mark Burger’s mission talks will be available for $3.00 each the following week.

OPERATION RICE BOWL

Let us remember in prayer that the ability to work to earn a living and a fair wage is a right of all people. FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
JIM LEISRING

Teaching can be described as a series of procedures, as a structured presentation, as a directed facilitation.  Some will say that teaching is an “art”.  However one might describe teaching, in a Catholic School, teaching is a ministry.  Catholic school teaching is a service aimed at bringing the students nearer to Christ and His Church on earth.  Just as the parish is in the midst of its Mission with Fr. Mark Burger, the faculty of our school took this past Friday, March 17, as a day of reflection.  Sr. Kathryn Ann Connelly, the former superintendent of our archdiocesan schools, presented the day.  As the principal, I can tell you how important it is to take time to look inward and focus on the meaning, purpose, and value of teaching as a ministry.  All those who assist us as benefactors, offering, time, talent, and treasure, are ministering as well.  We are grateful for your continued stewardship and ask always for your prayerful support.

Habitat for Humanity – Last fall we asked for volunteers to help with the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes and we expected to begin in January.  The coordinator at Habitat informed me that the Tremont Ave. home on which they were working was nearing completion and that another would be built on Beekman Street starting in April or May.

We are slated to help with that home when construction begins.  I have telephoned everyone who volunteered last November and will do so again when a start date is finalized.  I have asked that we be permitted to work on the fourth Saturday of every month.  Volunteers may stay at the work site as long as they wish, i.e. just for the morning or for the day.  Habitat volunteers must be at least 14 to work on site and be at least 18 to handle power tools.

If you did not volunteer in November but are interested in helping, please phone me at 922-4759.
