Dear Parishioners,

When asked what are the four readings during the Liturgy of the Word, most people can come up with the Prophets, Epistles and Gospels but have a hard time naming a fourth.  That would be the Psalms.  The Psalms are the prayer book of the Church and have a privileged place in the liturgy of the Church.  The Psalms form the core of the Divine Office and are frequently chanted during a liturgical or sacramental action.  Therefore, I urge you once again to make at least one if not all of the lectures on The Psalms this year for Lent.  Your spiritual life will be amply repaid for your effort.

--- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

There is a song called “Watching You” that describes a father who is initially shaken when his four year old son spills his lunch and says an inappropriate word.  The father asks where the boy heard the word.  The boy answered, “I’ve been watching you, Dad …I want to be like you…”  Later in the day, the father prays, “Lord, please help me help my stupid self.”

As the song continues, the father sees his boy get out of bed, kneel down to pray and “talk to God like he was talking to a friend”.  When the father asks his son where he learned to pray like that, his son again replies, “I’ve been watching you, Dad …I want to be like you.”

This week our students will be participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  It can be said that this sacrament is God’s response to the prayer, “Lord, please help me help my stupid self.”  But for how long will our children continue to go to reconciliation if we as parents and teachers do not model this behavior?  How long will our children continue to be kind, honest, respectful, prayerful, charitable, etc. if we do not model this behavior in our own lives and reconcile ourselves with God when we make mistakes?

Our seventh graders are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation next week.  Many of us were taught that this is where one is recognized as an adult in the Church.  As they continue to learn how an adult in the Church should act, remember they are “Watching You.”

LaRosa’s Buddy Cards are on sale from any eighth grader or by calling Kathy Martini at 451-2676.

We are fortunate to have the first of six talks, “Eucharist: Mystery of Light”.  It is a powerful indictment of today’s culture which needs salvation through faith in Christ and His precious gift to us.  Hear it in chapel on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
