THANK YOU to Dwyer Real Estate

for advertising in our bulletin.

Dear Parishioners,

Today, our parish is celebrating our First Communion.  The children have been well prepared to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time by their teachers and catechists.  But I am especially grateful to their parents who have taken to heart their baptismal promises “to train their children in the practice of the faith.”  I also want to use this occasion to urge everyone to be faithful to their Sunday Mass attendance.  To those who have been faithful to their Sunday Mass obligation, I want to affirm that you are doing the right thing.  To those who have not been so faithful, First Communion Sunday is a good time to renew your commitment to worship the Lord as He commands us.  It is an occasion to be recalled to “our earlier love” as we read in the Book of Revelation.  God bless all of our First Communicants.

+

Thanks to the Building and Grounds Commission and all of the volunteers who turned out for the parish plant clean-up day on April 28.  Your hard work really shows here in our little corner of Paradise.

+

May Crowning on Thursday, May 10, at 7 PM will also be our parish’s solemn act of thanksgiving for the Supreme Court decision which upheld the ban on partial birth abortion as well as for all pro-life activities throughout the world.  The Second Vatican Council reminds us that abortion is an unspeakable crime against humanity.  Moreover, when our Lady appeared at Guadalupe near Mexico City she effectively stopped the human sacrifice of the Aztecs.  Therefore, it seems fitting that we render thanks on the same evening that we honor the glorious and ever-virgin Mother of God, Mary most holy.

DID YOU KNOW?  Good news from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati – Schools are taking hold of their future!  Leadership at the local level, including pastors, principals, business leaders, and other laity are working together planning with other schools or within their deanery to vision new beginnings through the formation of new schools and new governance models with boards of trustees.  Congratulations to new school in the last two years: Mary, Queen of Peace, Dayton; Catholic Center, Springfield/Urbana; St. Nicholas, Deer Park.

Cheryl Reichel, principal at Incarnation School in Centerville is the Principal of the Year from our region who will be recognized at the NCEA Convention in Baltimore, April 2007.  This is the second year in a row one of our principals in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has been recognized for this prestigious award.  Last year, Bob Herring, principal at Nativity School in Cincinnati received this honor.

THE THIRD ANNUAL TRIP TO APPALACHIA is being planned for either late June or early July this year. The date is going to depend on the needs of Father Beiting since he is building a new warehouse. Colleen Rowland is the contact for the mission trip; you can call her at 513-266-4078. Come and be part of something that will change the lives of people and enrich your own Christian faith.

LIVING ROSARY at Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Wednesday, May 9th at 7:30 PM.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners:

This past week we were fortunate enough to listen to St. Antoninus alum, Pat Duffy.  Pat has spent the last 14 years working as a missionary.  He currently is working in Nicaragua and shared his experience with our students.

Comments from parents and from students indicate that his talk left a powerful impression with many of our students.  His main topic was on the conservation of water and the extremes the people he works with go to get fresh water.

Thank you to Mary Beth Nolan for setting up Mr. Duffy’s presentation.  Many of our students see how much we take for granted including the basic necessities of life.

Every January, the 5th and 8th grade students at St. Antoninus Parish School take the ACRE exam (Assessing Catechesis and Religious Education).   ACRE tests religious knowledge as well as beliefs, attitudes and practices.  Some results from the religious knowledge portion of this year’s ACRE are printed below.   The Domain name is followed by three numbers in this order: average score for our students, for students in the archdiocese and a national average:

Jesus said to us, “Be holy as I am holy.”  How am I to do that?  What does holiness involve?  On Tuesday, in chapel at 7:30 PM, Mary Handermann’s talk, “Hope and Trust in the Lord”, will give us guidelines for living in harmony with God.  As we mature in our relationship with Him we learn to find peace and strength.  We learn to put fears aside and reside in hope and trust for God’s plan for us.  He never abandons us.  He is our strength.
