Dear Parishioners,

Today is the national celebration of Father's day.  The daily news reminds us each day how important fathers are in the spiritual and moral development of their children.  A strong father (or father figure) makes for happier and more secure children; his absence can never really be replaced. Years ago, Fr. Henri Nouwen characterized our contemporary society as fatherless, rootless, sporadic and introspective.  How counter-cultural a strong Catholic father is: he is there, providing strong character formation; he reminds his children of their roots and of their true destiny, heaven; there is nothing sporadic about his Mass attendance every Sunday; he teaches his children to be concerned not just about themselves but others and the world we all live in. We owe our fathers a great deal: our love, support and gratitude.  Happy Fathers Day!

--- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

Next year we are looking to increase the hands-on experiments in our middle school science.  We have been able to acquire new equipment by using our auxiliary money (your tax dollars).

Next year, when eighth graders study Bernoulli’s Principle of aerodynamics they will be able to construct model aircraft wings and test them in a wind tunnel.  They will also use a computer program and pilot’s yoke that hook up to a computer.  This will help show them how the flaps of an aircraft work as they learn to take off and safely land.

Now that we have acquired a portable weather station, when the seventh graders study weather they will be able to download weather data directly into a spreadsheet on the computer.  Using this local data and satellite photos from the internet, students will make their own weather predictions.

While books and lecture can provide the backbone information for science, students will be able to transfer the acquired knowledge into “real life” applications.  The students will not just hear or read how science works; they will be able to see it first hand.

Peter, the apostle, follower of Christ, often with his foot in his mouth, and yet beloved first Pope.  How well do you know Peter, beyond his denial of Jesus?  On Tuesday, Fay Brinck will examine the many facets of his personality and why he has such a prominent place in the Gospels.  You might be amazed at what you don’t know.  In chapel, 7:30 PM.

DID YOU KNOW?    Since 1990 there have been 60 priests ordained for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, 58 of who are still active.

More than 150 permanent deacons have been ordained for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati since the permanent deaconate was restored.  Thirty-three deacons were ordained on April 28, 2007, the most in three decades.

Catholics of the Archdiocese contributed about $850,000 to the Retirement fund for Religious in 2006.  Comparisons aren’t in yet, but last year’s contribution was the second highest amount of any diocese in the country.

ST. TERESA OF AVILA SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP will be on July 9-13 from 9AM to 11:30AM.  The cost is $35 per child. T-shirts $12 each.  For info call Maribeth Koopman, 251-9972 or Mike Stalf, 471-6610, 8AM-5PM.
