THE THIRD ANNUAL TRIP TO APPALACHIA is being planned now. Call Colleen Rowland at 266-4078 for information.

Dear Parishioners,

I have just returned from the North American College Reunion which was held in New Orleans on June 25-28.  It is a city legendary for its jazz and cuisine but nowadays it is also known for Hurricane Katrina.  Although there is little evidence of the storm’s damage in the French Quarter where the reunion was held, it was present in every conversation.  Taxi drivers are having a tough time due to fewer tourists.  Members of Legatus lost their homes and their work forces.  Archbishop Hughes is faced with rebuilding a diocese that lost half its members to the Katrina diaspora.  He was particularly grateful for the help his diocese received from the nation’s Catholics and, because there is still more to be done, he asked for our continued help.  It is hard to believe that 80% of the city was affected by the storm and half its population relocated. It seemed to me the remaining citizens were just overcoming their numbness over the disaster.   They certainly need our help, especially our prayers as clinical depression and suicides have dramatically risen subsequently.   Besides our prayers, financial contributions can be made to: Catholic Charities USA, Diocese of New Orleans Relief, PO Box 25168,  Alexandria, VA, 22313-9788. Or call 1-800-919-9338.

We are happy to welcome Sr. Teresita Weind this year’s speaker for the Archdiocese’s Mission Cooperation Plan.

July is traditionally devoted to the Precious Blood of Jesus, the source of our salvation.  A wonderful way to honor His Precious Blood would be to go to confession.  An Examination of Conscience is included in this bulletin.  CLICK HERE to access "An Examination of Conscience".
