THANK YOU to Schroer Eye Center

for advertising in our bulletin.

Dear Parishioners,

God has rewarded our parish in many ways over many years.  Our growth and development can be seen:  in the number who come to Mass not only on Sundays but daily, who come to receive the other sacraments, especially Reconciliation;  in our ministries within the parish for example the Athletic Club, Bereavement Committee, and Parent Teachers’ Organization, to name only a  few;  in our parish school, parish religious education program and Adult Faith formation opportunities;  in the physical beauty of our parish plant but most of all in you, dear parishioners and fellow servants of the Lord Jesus.

God has rewarded our parish with a diligent parish staff and Finance Council who work to ensure the proper stewardship of the money which you entrust to us.  Yet, as with many other churches, we continue to be confronted with regular and increasing operating expenses:  salaries, benefits, maintenance and utilities.  In addition we want to be prepared for major capital improvements, those foreseen and those unexpected.  Because of your past generosity, I feel confident in making the following request.

After prayerful consideration and with the recommendation of our parish Finance Council, I am asking everyone again to consider a renewed commitment to the future of our parish through the stewardship of your treasure.  Good stewardship recognizes that all our gifts come from God and belong to Him.  Stewardship recognizes the providence of a loving Father, who gave us His only Son and who, together with His Son, pours out the Holy Spirit upon us each day.  As a consequence, we are called upon to be good stewards and managers of God’s gifts to us.

Next week, you and all other registered parishioners will receive a letter from me suggesting a detailed plan for your increased weekly offertory gift.  When it arrives, I ask you to give it prayerful and serious consideration.    No one will call or visit; you will do this in the privacy of your own home where God’s blessings are most evident.  I am asking you to do your best to respond to this.  The vigor of our parish depends on your generous response.

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

As one observes the news concerning our country these days it causes fear.  There seems to be a weakening of the national conscience.  We are involved in a war against terrorists that doesn’t seem to have an end.  We find ourselves embroiled in local rising crimes and murders, teen suicides nationally, laws against the sanctity of life and marriage, and so on.  As we celebrate Labor Day we realize how desperately our people and our government need our prayers.  Please join us in chapel on Tuesday, 7:30PM to pray the much loved Patriotic Rosary for all our needs.  Prayer is the answer that gives us hope and trust and courage to be vigilant.

LADIES FELLOWSHIP DAY on Saturday, November 17th, from 8AM to 3PM. More info and reservations forms will be available soon!

Could you spare 2 hours to pray for an end to abortion on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 at Holy Name Church on Auburn Ave, (near the corner of McMillan Ave.).  Plan now to participate. Mass is at 8 am, followed by the rosary procession, ending at the church about 9:45 am.   If you wish to carpool, gather in the St. A parking lot by 7:15 am. For more info, call 922-0348 or 922-7231.

SCRIPTURE SEMINAR provides an overview of the four Gospels and their themes, and gives you the resources and confidence needed to enable you to teach the Bible in small group settings.  The program will be in the Holy Family Room of the undercroft at 9 AM to 12 noon on Saturdays, September 22, 29, October 6, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 24, December 1 and 8.  For info and to register call George and Kay Schmidl at 941-2431, Judy Erwin at 451-2908 or Mary Handermann at 922-4738 & mhbible@fuse.net.
