Today is Catechetical Sunday. I am grateful to all of our Catechesis in our parish school and parish religious education program (PREP) who assist parents in their role as the primary educators of their children. On Wednesday, September 5, we held an organization meeting for discussion groups on the book Catholic from the Inside Out: Evangelizing the Culture of our Parish School. The purpose of the discussion is to evaluate what we are doing as an unexamined life, even for an institution, is hardly worth living. I believe we have an excellent parish school but we do not wish to rest on our laurels and seek constantly to improve it. The authors of the book, who called themselves the “Core Group”, put it the following way in their preface. We want simply to give their work our serious consideration as we continue to make St. Antoninus Parish School a place of faith, prayer and learning. CATHOLIC FROM THE INSIDE OUT: EVANGELIZING THE CULTURE OF OUR PARISH SCHOOL We studied the circumstances of our parish and locality; we looked into educational theory (some of it we liked, some of it we didn’t ), working from philosophy and theology, we clarified our schools’ nature, purpose and goals, we consulted widely, and we took some first, small steps toward evangelizing the culture of our school. Perhaps the story of our hopes and disappointments, our successes and failures, will offer insight and encouragement to some who, like ourselves, are looking beyond educational methods and techniques to foundational principles, as they struggle to make their own school Catholic from the inside out. During the four years that it took us to conceive and inaugurate the renewal in our school, we experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit, addressing our inadequacies and sustaining our vision. For us, this process was truly a spiritual journey. PREFACE -- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY
Dear Parishioners, At first look at our enrollment numbers, I was somewhat disappointed. We started this year with the exact number of students (497) as we ended with last year. But looking at the break down, I was very encouraged. Most of the non-returning students moved over the summer. Our increases are coming primarily in the younger grades. When we decided to add another kindergarten teacher we were going to have a waiting list of three students. We opened school with 12 more kindergarteners than we had last year. Last year we had 46 kindergarteners and this year we have 55 first graders. So this intact group has grown by 9 students. Our smallest grades are grades 5th, 6th, and 7th. If this trend continues, in two years we will be graduating small classes and adding larger classes, which, in turn, will cause us to grow. We know in order to keep this trend going, where we add more students every year than we graduate, we will have to continually look to the consistent improvement of everything we do. We also know that we are continually blessed by your support and your prayers. These too will need to continue if we are to grow as a parish school. + + + The Education Commission is the parish group that advises the Pastor, Principal, and Director of Religious Education on policies pertaining to all education programs throughout the parish. In addition to Fr. Christopher Armstrong and Mr. Jack Corey the Commission includes the Director of Religious Education, Deacon Bob Schroeder, and six adult parishioners elected to three year terms by the parish at large. For the 2007-08 school year the elected are: Maggie Pater, President; Julie Scott, Vice-President; Beth D’Amico, Secretary; Mollie DiGiacomo, Parish Counsel Representative; Amy Domenicone, PTO Representative and Marty Ludwig, Publicity. Meetings are announced in the Sunday bulletins and in the school’s weekly newsletter. Visitors are always welcome to attend. Any item for the agenda must be submitted at least ten days in advance of a meeting to Father Armstrong, Mr. Corey, Deacon Bob or Maggie Pater. For more info call Maggie at 922-2735 or email to maggiepater@yahoo.com. The next scheduled meeting is Sept. 17 at 7:30 pm in the school’s conference room. |
A NOTE FROM OUR
SEMINARIAN INTERN My name is David Endres and this year I will be serving your parish as a seminarian intern (in much the same way as the now-Father Ron Haft served here previously). I am from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary and am in my third year of preparation for the priesthood. I grew up in Fairfield and am a member of Sacred Heart parish. I attended Badin High School (Hamilton), Xavier University, and then began graduate studies in Church history at Catholic University (Washington, D.C.) before entering the seminary. I am fortunate to have been raised in a family in which the Catholic faith is very important. My uncle, Father Al Lauer, served as a diocesan priest. My parents and grandparents also modeled for me a strong life of faith. My father is an administrator at Badin High School and my mother and sister both work in elementary schools in Hamilton. I am very pleased to be beginning my year here. I hope to have the opportunity to meet many of you in the weeks and months ahead. I promise my prayers for you and ask for the same from you.
HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP
We live in Christ due to our baptism. Are we truly aware of the significance of that fact? On Tuesday, we will view the video tape by Fr. Benedict Graeschel on “Baptism and its Effect”. We take so much for granted that we should be truly grateful for. Come and see why in chapel at 7:00PM.
THE ST. ANTONINUS PTO Vice President position is open. Anyone interested should call Maria Allen at 922-2493 or Joan Berning at 451-2427. This can be filled by 1 or 2 adults.
Our Twin Parish St. Francis Seraph, needs volunteers to help in their school cafeteria Monday thru Friday. If you can volunteer two hours per month, please call Carolyn Rolfes at 347-0622.
