THANKSGIVING DAY, Nov. 22nd

8AM Mass only and No Confessions.

Dear Parishioners,

Basic Christian Morality includes the concepts of Law and Conscience.  Law is an ordinance of reason for the common good promulgated by those in authority.  Divine natural law is found in the very structure of life and can be known by reason (eg. “Do good and avoid evil.”).  Divine positive law is found in Divine Revelation and can be known by faith (eg. The Ten Commandments).  Civil law is the particular application of Divine natural law (eg. traffic regulations).  Ecclesiastical law is the particular application of Divine positive law (eg. Sunday Mass obligation).  Law, properly understood, represents the objective moral order, something outside of ourselves.  On the other hand, Conscience belongs to the subjective moral order, something inside ourselves.  Conscience is a person’s inner dialogue with God Who call each one to act with the man or woman he or she is called to be (recall the 10 characteristics of human dignity and our eternal destiny).  Conscience is a judgment of reason.  Conscience is at work in an action: 1) before (sorting data); 2) during (making a judgment to act or not to act, to hold an attitude or not); 3) after (evaluating the rightness or wrongness of an action).  There are at least two principals concerning conscience.  First, conscience is supreme but it is not superior to God, the Church or other people’s consciences.  A person has no higher court of appeal than his or her conscience because ultimately each one is responsible for his or her actions.  One who does not accept such responsibility is not free and not to be free is to become like the animals since the mystery of being human is being free.  Second, everyone has the duty to develop an informed conscience.  Among other things, an informed conscience 1) has a pure intention; 2) consults Divine Revelation; 3) consults the teaching of the Church; 4) uses the “yardstick of love” to measure an act; 5) follows current debate on moral issues; 6) asks God for guidance; 7) confesses sins and sinfulness (eg, immediate gratification, laziness, what others may think).  In sum, Conscience: form it and follow it.  Law and conscience are two sides of one coin: the objective and subjective norms of the moral order.

ORIENTATION ON THE CHILD PROTECTION DECREE   will be held in the Holy Family Room at 1PM on Thursday, November 15.

NOVEMBER is traditionally devoted to the Poor Souls.  St. John Vianney gives at least one reason to pray for them.  “If it were but known how great is the power of the good souls in Purgatory with the Heart of God, and if we knew all the graces we can obtain through their intercession, they would not be so much forgotten.  We must therefore, pray much for them that they may pray much for us.”

THANKSGIVING DAY MASS at 8:00AM we will be accepting non-perishable food items and cash gifts for the St. Michael Food Pantry through our St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Please help the Society.

We ask that all small children refrain from drinking flavored beverages while in the greeting room of the church.  The drinks leave stains in the carpet from the sugars and colorings.  There is a water fountain available in the hallway by the restrooms.  Thank you.

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards and the 2008 Entertainment and Zone Books are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM.

The Education Commission meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 PM in the school conference room.  Visitors are always welcome.  If visitors wish to speak, they should call Maggie Pater a week prior to the meeting to be included in the agenda.  Contact Maggie at 922-2735 or at maggiepater@yahoo.com.

COFFEE & DONUT SUNDAY after every Mass on Sunday, November 11, in the undercroft.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

This past year one of the comments I consistently heard from job candidates and parents of prospective students is how great our facilities looked.  Our Buildings and Grounds Commission does an awesome job keeping up our facilities, but they need volunteers to help.  This Saturday, November 17, the fall cleanup/rake out will be held at 9:00 a.m.  This is a great way to give of your time.  Please help ensure that our facilities remain a source of pride for our parish.

YOUTH CLUB Mass will be on Sunday, November 25, at 11:30AM, The Feast of Christ the King.

Singing practice is on Saturdays at 9AM in the church.  For info call Julie Heil at 922-3848.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

We are blessed to have at St. Antoninus our seminarian intern, Mr. David Endres.  On Tuesday, November 13, he will share his journey to the seminary with us and have some time for questions and answers.  Please come and pray with us and hear his story in the chapel at 7:30PM.

Don’t forget to send in your St. A 200+ Raffle tickets.

SAVE THE DATE OF SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17th, for Fall Cleaning and Rake-Out Day at 9AM.

ADULT SOCIAL GROUP

Monday, November 12th, Communion Service and Thanksgiving Dinner.  $8.00 per person. Make your reservations by Thursday, November 8th.  Bring your nominations for new officers.  Elections will be held on December 10th.

A NOTE FROM OUR SEMINARIAN INTERN,

MR. DAVID ENDRES

One of the many weekly parish happenings that can be overlooked is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).  Unless we personally know someone learning more about the faith or considering entrance into the Church, we likely know little about the process.  This year the parish has seven adults who are taking part.  Some have been baptized in other Christian traditions and others are baptized Catholics taking this opportunity to “update” their understanding of the faith.  During these beginning weeks of instruction, we are getting down to basics – learning about the Scriptures, the Mass, and the Holy Trinity.  It is always exciting for us who help teach the participants to share our own knowledge and experience of the faith and be enriched by their inquisitives and enthusiasm.  Please pray for the men and women who are learning more about our faith and those discerning their entrance into the Catholic Church at Easter.

ATHLETIC CLUB:   Girls Basketball sign-ups for 3rd grade thru high school by e-mail.  Send name, grade#, address, and phone number to tnussman@zoomtown.com or call 922-3662. Soccer Coordinators Needed For boys and/or girls soccer.  Please call Julie Burke at 347-7435, or via email at julieburke@current.net.  Season preparation will start in late March, early April.  Boys High School Basketball will be on Tuesday, November 13th at 10PM for 9th & 10th graders and Thursday, November 15th, at 10PM for 11th & 12th graders.  Boys must be members of St. Antoninus Parish to participate.

NEW YEAR’S EVE DANCE, December 31, at 8:00 pm to 1:00 am.  The cost of $25.00 per person includes:  beer, wine, soda, champagne at midnight, party favors, DJ, and Skyline Cheese Coneys!  For info call Jackie Anderson at 451-4264; Lori Rolfes 451-9737; or Lauri Sullivan 451-4142.

WHAT IS NAZARETH WEEK?  It is part of a tradition begun by Carlos Carreto in Espello, Italy, where people share a week of living in a community spirit the spiritually of Brother Charles de Foucauld.  The goal is for each person to have a personal and communal encounter with God. To confirm your participation, respond by December 1st, to patduffyjr@gamil.com.
