Dear Parishioners, Who is not busy this time of year? Just the other day someone was listing all the tasks they had to accomplish before Christmas and someone else responded but: “Isn’t Christmas supposed to be fun?” I hope it can be both but I am more concerned with “busy-ness” not just at Christmas but throughout the year. I can’t tell you, for example, how often I hear people say they can not come to Mass every Sunday because they are “too busy.” I often wonder to myself, too busy doing what? My friend, Fr. Mark Burger, used to have a sign on his desk in the seminary: “The man too busy to pray is busier than God wants him to be.” Given that Mass times are so convenient in our deanery, I am surprised that to hear anyone say they can’t make it to mass on Sunday. And of course, I am reminded at this time of year from my Welsh ancestry: “Let not your hearts be busy inns/but cradle the Christ Child therein.” Christ and his family are looking for a place to stay not only on Christmas Day but every Sunday. Will they find room in the inn of our busy lives? ++++ I wish to thank the Tim Klapper family for setting up the outdoor Nativity scene along the Linneman side of the church. Great job, Klappers!

Dear Parishioners, One of the many blessings we have here at school is those members that give of their time by volunteering. Volunteers not only save money by donating services that would have cost the school, but they make St. Antoninus Parish School better by giving us a personal attention we could never buy. One of our school goals is to have school-wide service projects. Our latest projects include first graders who send cards to the Veterans’ hospital and the first, third, and fourth graders who collected and sent over 200 pounds of supplies and letters to two former St. Antoninus grads, Sarah Klump, currently on the USS Peleliu, and Phillip Klump, currently serving in Iraq. The supplies were for distribution to fellow soldiers. A big thank you goes to people who donated money to help offset the cost of shipping, especially Scarlet and Gray(Mark and Janine Cappel), who donated the balance of the shipping. Our world is a better place when people give of themselves to make it better for others.
SEMINARIAN INTERN, MR. DAVID ENDRES The mystery of the Incarnation (God becoming man) that we celebrate at Christmas changed all of human history. The following “Proclamation of Christmas” comes from the ancient Roman Martyrology and was often read before Mass on Christmas Eve: “The Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ: In the 5,199th year of the creation of the world from the time when God created the heavens and the earth; the 2,957th year after the flood; the 2,015th year from the birth of Abraham; the 1,510th year from Moses and the going forth of the people of Israel from Egypt; the 1,032nd year from David's being anointed king; the 65th week according to the prophecy of Daniel; in the 194th Olympiad; the 752nd year from the foundation of Rome; the 42nd year of the reign of Octavian Augustus; the whole world being at peace, in the 6th age of the world, Jesus Christ the eternal God and Son of the eternal Father, desiring to sanctify the world by his most merciful coming, being conceived by the Holy Spirit, and nine months having passed since his conception, was born in Bethlehem of Judea of the Virgin Mary, being made flesh.” Two millennia later we continue to celebrate Jesus’ birth. Merry Christmas. |
