BABYSITTING FOR THE 9:30AM MASS, SUNDAY, December 30

Adult Volunteers: Cindy Reis, Linda DeSantis

Students: Rachel H., Rebecca K., Abby L.

Dear Parishioners,

     Pope Benedict XV established the feast of the Holy Family as a result of the aftermath of World War I.  In his time it was called the "Great War...to end all wars."  Sadly, it did not.  That Pope foresaw that the way to renew society was to start with its basic building block, the family.  He reasoned that if we are to have a morally healthy society we need morally healthy families.  Subsequent Popes have augmented their predecessor's theme.  In his encyclical on St. Joseph (Redemptoris Custos), Pope John Paul II quote directly from Paul VI: "We see that at the beginning of the New Testament, as at the beginnin of the Old, there is a married couple.  But whereas Adam and Eve were the source of evil which was unleashed in the world, Joseph and Mary are the summit from which holiness spreads over all the earth."  Another author states: "Let us recall a primary truth:  it i the human couple which is the image of God, no the individual.  God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them (Genesis 1:27)."  Likewise, Catholic families are not alone in their joys and sorrows for Christ himself is ever present:  "Where two or three are gathered together, there am I."  And on this Feast of the Holy Family it bears repeating: "The family that PRAYS together, STAYS together."  And be sure to take time to pray before the Nativity Scenes here is church and in your home!

++++

Fr. Mick, David Endres and I are very grateful for the gifts, cards and greetings we received for Christmas.  We remember our benefactors in our evening prayer together.  May God keep us all in 2008!

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

Merry Christmas!  Thank you for all the generous support you have given to us over the past year.  May the brith of Jesus Christ bring us hope and joy throughout the coming year.

A NOTE FROM OUR

SEMINARIAN INTERN,

MR. DAVID ENDRES

This weekend we celebrate he feast of the Holy Family.  My grandfather was a carpenter and had a special devotion to St. Joseph who is often depicted with tools.  He prayed frequently to Joseph, the foster-father of Jesus, that he would be protected while on the job.  My grandmother has a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary often.  As husband and wife, father and mother, my grandparents consciously modeled themselves after the Holy Family.  They did not have a "perfect" family, but they strived to be a "holy" family.  Those who are parents have a particular role in helping their children become holy through their example and children can also help their parents grow in holiness.  On this feast, may we try to imitate the Holy Family and remember that we each have a role in helping our familes grow closer to the Lord.
