FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

During the first week-end in February, our Parish held the devotion “Forty Hours” in adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament.  Typically, we have a faith-formation session for liturgical ministers, which consists of the 8AM Saturday Mass, a period of adoration, a brief business meeting and a speaker.  This year’s speaker was Mr. David Endres, our pastoral intern.  His talk was so informative and eloquent that at its’ end someone simply said: “Beautiful!”. Enclosed, herewith, is that speech.  Spending more time in the presence of our Eucharistic Lord would be a wonderful way to spend Lent.

--Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Registration of new students is currently open.  If you are considering registering a student for the next school year, feel free to set up a tour or conference with me or one of the teachers.  If you know someone who is thinking about registering a kindergartener or a first grader, encourage them to register soon so they do not end up on a waiting list.  Most of our other grades can take students with the possible exception of next year’s fifth grade.
I would like to take this time to thank Mrs. Brunst and Mrs. Dwyer for their efforts in making our Geography Night a great success.  While many pitched in, Mrs. Brunst and Mrs. Dwyer were the main coordinators of the evening.  We had over 250 students and their families attend to participate in the different stations and see our surprise visitor, a penguin from Antarctica!  Even in the poor weather we had a full house.
This week we have parent-teacher conferences.  Parent-teacher conferences are a great means of keeping the lines of communication open between school and home.  If you have not scheduled an appointment, feel free to call the school at 922-2500.

SAINT ANTONINUS BOY SCOUT TROOP 614 – LENTEN FISH FRY will be in the undercroft from 5-7PM every Friday during Lent and on Good Friday.  Dine-in or carryout.  New item this year is baked potatoes.

THE SPRING SHOW which stars the students in Kindergarten, 5th, 6th and 8th grades, will be on Thursday, April 10.  We are looking for volunteers who would like to share their time and/or talents to make our show a success.  Call Mrs. Milano at 922-2500 or Milano@saintantoninus.org

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP
There are many situations in our daily lives and in the life of our culture that are in need of prayer.  Our goal on Tuesday will be to concentrate on a different problem area; example, pornography.  We hope to expand our own desire and ability to pray, as well as make reparation for our own sins and the sins of our nation.  The format will be simple with various forms of prayer and discussions.  We believe that our prayers can make a difference.  After all, Jesus said, “Ask and you shall receive.”   In chapel, 7:30PM.

A NOTE FROM OUR SEMINARIAN
Among my duties as a seminarian intern is to instruct the students at Friday morning school liturgies.  I often approach their instruction in the form of a dialogue.  I provide the questions and through their answers and my guidance they help to instruct each other.  I have been struck by how attentive the students are and how appropriate and theologically accurate their answers can be!  I remember well the second grader who rightly stated the definition of a martyr: “one who dies for the sake of the Gospel” and the young student who so eloquently remarked that when God calls someone to a religious vocation “He speaks to them in their heart.”  In the weeks ahead I will be reflecting with the students on the significance of the “Our Father,” especially the seven petitions contained within the prayer.  Though I am still relatively new to preaching, I enjoy it and look forward to the time that I will preach each day at Holy Mass.

St. Antoninus Class of 1993:
Plans are currently in the works for a Class of '93 15-year reunion.  We are looking for former classmates' addresses, phone numbers, email, etc.  If you are a '93 grad, or know a '93 grad, please email Anne & Krista any alumni information to antoninus1993@hotmail.com.  Thanks!  We look forward to reconnecting with you!  More info to follow.  Date and place TBA.

FEBRUARY 16-17, 2008
The Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) is an annual effort by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to spread the Gospel through informing and engaging the faithful with important regional ministries that benefit thousands of people throughout nineteen counties in western and southwestern Ohio. We invite you to share your gifts of time, talent, and treasure to participate in the life of our local church through these ministries. Below are summaries of the 2008 CMA ministries. You will find in-depth information on our Web site at www.catholicappeal.info.

SEMINARIANS, DEACONS AND
LAY PASTORAL MINISTERS EDUCATION

Education and ongoing formation of both ordained and lay pastoral ministers is vital to the health of our local church. We are blessed with a long tradition of educational excellence at our Athenaeum of Ohio, which is made possible by the talents and treasures of many people like you. Theology and ministry training at the Athenaeum provides for the spiritual needs of over 200 parishes in 19 counties. This ministry also includes our outreach efforts to increase vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES
CSS supports and empowers individuals, families, and communities as they meet the challenges of life and our changing society. Services such as senior companions, adoption, and family violence intervention are just a few of the many direct services provided by professional staff and volunteers throughout our region. These social ministries provide both short and long-term opportunities for us to spread God’s love in crisis and chronic times of emotional and spiritual need. CSS is a primary source of these services throughout our region.

ST. RITA  SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF
St. Rita is a Catholic day and residential school whose primary mission is to educate infants and students who need special methods of communication and technological support. The School provides a safe, value-oriented environment which facilitates the educational, social and spiritual development of each student.

Chaplains for Hospitals and Prisons
Patients, inmates, their family members, and medical workers need spiritual support and encouragement. Our chaplains, both lay and ordained, provide comfort and hope to hundreds of people each year who are suffering and alone. Chaplains answer Christ’s call to minister to the sick and imprisoned, and this regional ministry of the Archdiocese provides these services.

RETIRED ARCHDIOCESAN PRIESTS
The Archdiocese is home to many retired priests who faithfully served our parishes and institutions for many decades throughout their active service. In retirement, many continue to serve in part-time ministry as they are able. The Retired Priests ministry of the Catholic Ministries Appeal provides pension and health care benefits for our diocesan priests.

COLLEGE CAMPUS MINISTRIES
In all aspects of the college and university setting, campus ministries help students, faculty, and staff become more closely engaged with the Gospel and the richness of the Roman Catholic tradition. Campus Ministries keep faith lives strong in the face of competing material claims from the secular world, ensuring a foundation for God’s love to flourish throughout the Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese annually spends over $7 million on these ministries, and about $3.5 million of that was funded by the 2007 AAFD. Our goal this year is to fund $4 million for these ministries from the CMA. Those freewill offerings will greatly reduce our dependence on assessments and investment income.

Please be generous in your support of these ministries of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
