FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

Included with this bulletin is an examination of conscience.  Lent is a particularly good time to examine one's life especially in light of the Easter Duty.  The "Easter Duty" means that we are to receive Holy Communion at least once a year between Ash Wednesday and Trinity Sunday.  In order to so worthily, we must not be conscious of grave sin. It can happen that we can sin gravely, or even habitually, and not realize that we are in need of sacramental confession.  As it has been said, "What's too painful to remember, we simply choose to forget."  What we need to remember first of all is the love and the mercy of God.  He is always ready to forgive.  In fact "when we were lost and could not find the way to You [Father], You loved us more than ever.  Jesus, Your Son, innocent and without sin, gave Himself into our hands and was nailed to a cross". (The first Eucharistic Prayer for Reconciliation, [EPRI]). When we behold our Crucified Savior, how could anyone doubt God's love and mercy?  It is with confidence in His love and mercy that we examine our consciences and sacramentally confess our sins. We are invited to transform the world and lead it back to God precisely by converting our own hearts, in confessing our sins and trusting in His mercy: "You invite us to serve the family of mankind by opening our hearts to the fullness of your Holy Spirit [EPRI]" may our lady, Refuge of Sinners, gain for us the grace to make a good and holy confession in preparation for Easter.

Monday, February 18th, is Presidents Day.  There will only be one Mass at 8:00AM on the civil holiday.

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM.

WAY OF THE CROSS will be on Tuesdays at 7:00PM and on Wednesdays at 12:45PM during Lent and Holy Week.

LENTEN SERIES WITH FR. MIKE SEGER will be in the undercroft on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 27, March 5 and 12th at 7:30PM.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Lent is a call not just to "give up something" but, more important, to "give up something for the poor." Wherever you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell or phone the church. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell or calling you. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

SPIRITUAL SPONSORS FOR CONFIRMATION

You have the opportunity to serve as a “spiritual sponsor” for one of our candidates for Confirmation.  Each one’s name, address and photo will be on a board in the Greeting Room.  Please select a candidate, pray for him or her, and send that person notes of encouragement.  Thank you for this spiritual help to our candidates.

CATHOLIC MENS CONFERENCE tickets are on sale in the greeting room after Mass today.  Or call Deacon Bob Schroeder at 922-4759.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

After our new student registration we are in the same position as we were last year, do we have two sections of kindergarten and start a waiting list, or do we go with three sections of kindergarten.  Last year, as late registrations came in we were able to hire a third kindergarten teacher in the spring.

In all fairness to our third kindergarten teacher, I need to decide soon if we will keep all three kindergarten sections or will we scale down to two sections and start a waiting list.  If you are considering Saint Antoninus for your kindergarten child, please call the office as soon as possible at 922-2500.

SAINT ANTONINUS BOY SCOUT TROOP 614 – LENTEN FISH FRY will be in the undercroft from 5-7PM every Friday during Lent and on Good Friday.  Dine-in or carryout.  New item this year is baked potatoes

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

In keeping with our Lenten plan to pray for repentance and reparation for our sins and the sins of our nation, we interceded last week for an end to abortion.  Realizing that many of our people, some in our own families, have strayed from the practice of the faith, we will dedicate our prayers this week for their intentions.  Our prayers will be simple and with time for discussion, if wanted.  Join us at 7:30 PM Tuesday in Chapel.

St. Antoninus Class of 1993:

A NOTE FROM OUR SEMINARIAN
This coming week I will be away from the parish.  Along with nine other seminarians who are candidates for deacon ordination this spring, I will be attending a five-day retreat in Toledo.  The Church requires that all men  to receive Holy Orders make such a retreat so that they can focus both on their relationship with God and on the public promises they will make on the day of ordination.  For me, this means that I commit myself to a life of celibacy. I will promise obedience to my bishop and his successors. I will also promise to pray the Liturgy of the Hours each day as part of my commitment to the Church on behalf of the People of God.  Please pray for me as I prepare for my ordination to the transitional diaconate on April 26.

Mass of Christian Burial has been offered for Arthur T. Becker.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers.
