FROM OUR PASTOR

We are mid way through Lent and our resolution to do some form of penance during Lent may be flagging.  Not to worry.  As Blessed John XXIII said, no matter how much time we have left, we have enough time to become a saint.  So likewise, we still have enough time to prepare ourselves for the coming Easter and for that "Easter of unending joy."  Since, according to St. Gregory, the whole of the spiritual life is the education of desire, the first thing we have to do is to desire to become holy, to become a saint.  A saint, as St. Irenaues reminds us, is that man or woman who is fully alive:  "The glory of God is Man, fully alive; the glory of Man is God."  A saint is one that becomes all that God fully intends him or her to be.  For example, when Jesus looks at the woman at the well in today's Gospel, He does not see just an adulteress with a string of husbands, but someone thirsting for, that is desiring, "Living Waters."  But before she realized what she craved, Jesus had to lead her desires to Him, those Living Waters.  Our prayer and penance during Lent are meant to do just that, to remind us of our ultimate desire and Who Alone can slake it until "..an Easter of unending joy/we may at last attain."  As an aside, please attend the Easter Vigil, the very foundation of our life as Catholics.

SACRED SPACES of GREATER CINCINNATI will be broadcast on Sunday, March 2, at 8pm on the PBS Channel 48, WCET.  Fr. Armstrong did the color commentary for the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains.

49TH INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS in QUEBEC CITY, CANADA on JUNE 15-24TH, 2008.   Fr. Christopher R. Armstrong will be your Spiritual Leader for this “Eucharistic Pilgrimage”.   This includes workshops, Masses, adoration, catechesis sessions and testimonials. Guided sightseeing tours available.  For info and brochures, call the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Worship Office, Lisa Weber, at 421-3131.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

In the Gospel Jesus is transfigured and a voice from heaven says, "This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him." Do we listen to Jesus when he asks us to take care of our brothers and sisters who are suffering? Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box will help the poor as we celebrate the grace of God's love this Easter.

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM.

Winner of the Kroger $50 gift card for January is Tony Coors.  Congratulations!

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

Please pledge your support for six of our very important regional church ministries, through the Catholic Ministries Appeal.  100% of your contribution goes to Catholic Social Services, campus ministries, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, support of our retired priests, and chaplains for our hospitals and prisons.  Our parish goal this year is $52,000.  Please visit CatholicAppeal.info for extra information and to make your pledge.  Thank you.

Norm Burnworth representing Diocesan Publications (our Bulletin Publisher) will be at the parish soon.  He will be renewing present advertisements and seeking new ones.  If interested, please call the parish office at 922-5400.  We feel this is an excellent service and that the sponsors get good coverage with their ads.  THANKS TO YOU and DIOCESAN PUBLICATIONS, the bulletin is published weekly at no cost to the parish.

SPIRITUAL SPONSORS FOR CONFIRMATION

You have the opportunity to serve as a “spiritual sponsor” for one of our candidates for Confirmation.  Each one’s name, address and photo will be on a board in the Greeting Room.  Please select a candidate, pray for him or her, and send that person notes of encouragement.  Thank you for this spiritual help to our candidates.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

At this time of the year the final touches are being put on the budget and on the tuition fee.  Now is when we are reminded how generous our benefactors are to our parish school.  Your generous support makes this Catholic school accessible to those who desire it for their children.  Without your support, many families would not be able to afford a Catholic education.

As a parish we should be proud of our school.  St. Antoninus Parish School ranks in the top ten percent in the nation in Math and Reading.  This year, our eighth grade students earned over $100,000.00 in scholarships to continue their Catholic education in high school.  Our students attend Mass every Friday, participate in Eucharistic Adoration, go to confession, and learn to pray during the school day.   None of this would be possible without the generous support of our parishioners.  Thank you for all that you do.  Please continue to pray for us that we may carry on our ministry to all families who desire it.

ADULT SOCIAL GROUP

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

Since Lent is a time for repentance we will continue to gather to pray for our country.  We realize that ours is a “culture of death”; therefore, it is important that all our citizens embrace the need to seek national reparation for the many evils we see. We believe that persistence in prayer is the right and holy answer.  Join us at 7:30 PM Tuesday in Chapel.

JEN SHERMAN BENEFIT CONCERT at the Seton High School new gym on Sunday, February 24, at 6-9PM. $5 entry fee.

A NOTE FROM OUR SEMINARIAN
When we think of Lent we often think of “giving up” things, but Lent can also be about spiritually “giving more.”  The two spiritual activities that have been most important to me during my time of discernment and preparation for the priesthood are daily Mass and Eucharistic adoration.  For me, both began during my college years.  Perhaps this Lent you could commit to attending Mass one extra time per week (in addition to Sunday Mass) or commit to praying before the Eucharist during Friday exposition in the Chapel (from 9 AM until 10 PM).  As we draw closer to Holy Week, make a commitment now to spend some more time with the Lord.

SOFTBALL SIGNUPS will be held Feb. 24th after the 9:30 and 11:30 Masses in the undercroft. Any questions contact Candi Bushman at 922-1630 or Carrie Steinhaus at 347-3725.
