FROM OUR PASTOR

We give thanks to the Most Holy Trinity for the ordination of David Endres to the transitional diaconate.  David is a “transitional” deacon because he will be ordained to the priesthood next year, Deo volente.  We are grateful for David's service to our parish, to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and to the Universal Church.  And we continue to pray for him as he continues his priestly formation.
You will also notice in this bulletin notes on the Pentecost Novena which begins May 1st.  My great desire is to have a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon our parish.  Although each day of the Novena requests some designated neighborhood, everyone is welcome on everyday.  I realize that it may be difficult for some to come to Church so this insert with Prayers to the Holy Spirit, can be prayed in families or by yourself.
May Crowning is Thursday, May 8.  This is a parish event and a most appropriate way to honor our Blessed Mother who is our life, our sweetness and our hope.  Athletic events under the control of St. Antoninus have been canceled so I hope parents will bring their children.  Following May Crowning there will be a special concert in honor of our Blessed Mother, performed by Tatiana.

Wear red for Pentecost!

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

THANK YOU:  This bulletin is furnished to the parish without charge.  The advertisements that appear completely defray all publishing costs with which the church would otherwise be burdened.  Please patronize these sponsors as a thank you for their kind generosity.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

100% of your contribution goes to Catholic Social Services, campus ministries, lay and ordained ministries education, St. Rita School for the Deaf, support of our retired priests, and chaplains for our hospitals and prisons.  You may drop off your donation at the rectory office or in the collection basket.  Thank you.

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM.

PARISH SPAGHETTI DINNER will be on Saturday, May 17, from 5:30-6:30PM.  Cost is $5.00 per family. Send your reservation thru school or in the collection basket.  Note name, number of people attending, and if you are donating a dessert or a 2-liter soda drink. Mark envelope “Parish Spaghetti Dinner”.   Volunteers are needed for set-up, serving and clean up.  Call Julie Scott at 922-3015 or Mariellen Rectin for details at 467-1616.

St. Antoninus Tuition Assistance Program donation request:  TAP is supported by funds from PTO and from the generosity of our parishioners.  Tuition assistance is provided to school families that are having financial hardship and apply for assistance. The TAP donation directly pays the families’ current year school tuition bills.  Please pray for its success.

Applications for Tuition Assistance are available for in-parish grade school families having financial hardship this upcoming 2008-09 school year.    Note that this year there are changes in the tuition assistance program: St. Antoninus will use the common PSAS (Private School Aid Service) application and the assistance will be offered at the beginning of the school year.   These applications are available on the St. Antoninus school web site.  The application must be postmarked by Friday May 9th, and these awards will be made one time per year, in early June.   If this form has already been completed for High School assistance or for EDSAP (Elder Scholars Assistance Program), a transfer form (also available on the web site) can be submitted to PSAS (Private School Aid Service) for St. Antoninus to access that information.  This form only needs to be completed once per family.   Questions? Call the parish business manager Peggy James at 922-5400.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners:

In March, I wrote about a former student of St. Antoninus, Lance Corporal Phillip Klump, coming to thank our students for sending care packages to his unit in Iraq.  This past week we were blessed with a visit from his sister ICFN Sarah Klump serving in the Navy.  Her ship, the USS Peleliu is stationed out of San Diego and is heading for Iraq when she returns from leave.  Our first grade class also sent care packages for sailors on her ship.  Please check out video and pictures of her visit at www.saintantoninus.org.  We are very proud of her.

All members of our military are volunteers.  They have volunteered so that we may benefit from the freedoms of this country.  Please continue to pray for the safety of the Klumps and all members of the Armed Services.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

In her two-part series on Freedom and Healing in Christ, Diane Autenrieb last week stressed the importance of making choices against bad habits and addictions which lead to sin. This week her talk, Healing in Christ is based on Matthew 8:16: “He expelled the spirits by a simple command and cured all who were afflicted.”  Diane expands this word to stress that healing comes through faith, hope, love, and forgiveness. Our faith leads us to hope in Christ which leads to love for Him and others and to forgiveness for ourselves and for those who have hurt us. It is a whole package that will free us from those sins and faults that separate us from our relationship with Christ and bring us back into grace. In Chapel, 7:30 PM.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE through May 31, people throughout the area will be asked to pray and fast, and attend a peaceful vigil outside of two local abortion facilities.  To participate, call Joan Loebker at 922-0348 to pledge a specific a day and time.  For more info go to www.40daysforlife.com/cincinnati

LAY PASTORAL MINISTRY PROGRAM CLASSES will start in the fall at St. Dominic Church parish center.  Two informational meetings about this two-year certificate program will be at 7PM on Thursday, May 1, and 9:30AM on Saturday, May 3. For information call 231-1200.

A NOTE FROM

DEACON DAVID ENDRES

By the time that you read this, I will have been ordained a deacon by Archbishop Pilarczyk.  I thank you for your prayers and support and look forward to serving the parish in this new role.  As a deacon, I will be able to baptize, assist the priest at Mass, proclaim the Gospel and preach homilies, witness at marriages and give certain blessings.  I will not be able to celebrate Mass, hear confessions or anoint the sick until my priestly ordination in May 2009. I will continue to reside at St. Antoninus through August 2008 at which time I will return to the seminary to begin my last year of study for the priesthood.  I am very grateful to the priests, staff members and parishioners of this parish and for the role that they have had in my discernment and formation.  May God bless you all for your goodness!
