FROM OUR PASTOR

I do not wish to offend Fr. Mick's modesty; therefore, I will not gush about him on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. However, I remember a visiting professor in the seminary telling us that the ministry of the priest was the ministry of thanksgiving. There is no more sublime way to give thanks than by celebrating Mass, both priest and people together. Supposing that Fr. Mick celebrated Mass everyday of his sixty years as a priest, that would be at least 21,900 Masses. Moreover, as I saw in a sacristy once: "Priest of God, celebrate this Mass as if it were you first Mass, your last Mass, your only Mass." I can't help but think Fr. Mick has done just that at least 21,900 times in his life! For all of that and more, we give thanks to the Lord. Ad multos annos, Fr. Mick!

Father Larry Mick Burse:

A Living Legacy for 60-year Jubilee

A burse is a permanently restricted endowment, with the interest used to help offset the cost of training local seminarians for the priesthood including tuition, room and board – about $30,000 a year. The goal of a burse is to fully endow one seminarian’s formation.

    A burse currently:

    * To be established requires a minimum pledged donation of $25,000.

    * Provides naming opportunity rights – benefactor or honoree, or as a memorial.

    * Is regulated by the board of trustees with interest presently allocated annually at six percent.

Burses may receive additional capital over one’s lifetime, and even beyond, through inclusion in one’s will.  Please make check out to St. Antoninus Parish and mark the memo line “Fr. Mick Burse.”  The actual date of Fr. Mick’s 60th anniversary is March 12, 2009.  We will celebrate it as a parish on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the 11:30AM Mass.

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

At school all our students received “Rice Bowls” for Lent.  At an all school Mass, Deacon Schroeder asked the students to assign a small monetary value to anything they are doing for Lent.  For example, if a student who drinks pop assigns a quarter to each glass of pop, every time the student goes without the customary pop, a quarter is dropped into the Lenten rice bowl.  If a student decides to keep his room clean, that student can put an assigned amount for every day the room is kept clean.

The money is used to help those less fortunate than ourselves.  This allows our self-denial to serve a good purpose.  Please encourage your children to assign a value to their Lenten self-denial.

Congratulations to Fr. Mick as he celebrates 60 years as a priest from all of us at St. Antoninus Parish School.

ALADDIN PLAY TICKETS for performances on Friday, March 20, at 7PM and Saturday, March 21, at 6PM in the school gym.  Tickets are $5/adults, $3/students.  Please see order form on the St. A website or call school for more details.

LaRosa Buddy Cards are being sold by the 8th grade to raise money for their field trip to Columbus.  The cards are $10.00 each and are valid until February 2010.  Please call an 8th grader or JoAnn Gay 922-7705(home) or 470-6349 (cell).

FROM DEACON DAVID ENDRES

This weekend Fr. Mick celebrates sixty years in the priesthood! Commemorating his many years of faithful service is a great joy for all of us who have been impacted by his ministry. I have enjoyed living, working, and praying with Fr. Mick during my time here. Assisting him at Mass and sharing meals with him has been a particular source of joy for me. I often joke that I hope that I am half the priest that he is when I am in my eighties (presuming I make it that far). He is wonderful example of commitment, generosity, and humility. Congratulations, Fr. Mick!

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

During Lent (and any time) it is very encouraging to hear testimonies of faith. In our parish we have an occasion to hear such a story, titled A Faith Journey, as told by teen-ager Gabriella Therapiawan and her father Herman. Their long trip from Indonesia to Cincinnati and the events since make a fascinating tale. Throughout it all their total reliance on God’s care and guidance and their unfaltering faith are examples for us all. It is especially heartwarming to hear this from a teenage perception. We invite all to come and be inspired, especially young people. In Chapel on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
