FROM OUR PASTOR

Last Sunday, we celebrated Fr. Mick's sixtieth anniversary of priestly ordination. Next to him was Deacon David Endres who will be ordained to the priesthood this coming May. Please God, David will celebrate 60 years of priestly ordination in 2069. And if I would be there, I would be 114 years old! Also, last Sunday, Fr. Mick was wearing cufflinks that belonged to his grandfather. And so, I can't help thinking how the faith has been handed down from one generation to the next. And those two facets of the life of the Church, parents handing on the faith to their children and the call to serve the Lord as His priest, led me to the following musing on Sacrament of Confirmation, which Archbishop Schnurr conferred on our parishioners, mostly from the seventh grade in our parish school, this past Thursday. Those musings are: will these children hand on the faith to their children and see to it that they practice faith, especially by going to Mass each and every Sunday? Will one of these students answer the call to serve the Lord in His Church as a brother or sister, monk or nun, deacon or priest? I hope I don't have to wait until I am 114 to find out!

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

THE MAIN-A-VENT

Thank you so much to everyone who helped sup-port our parish fund raiser, the Main-A-Vent. This new annual themed event helps subsidize our parish school tuition and provide continuing maintenance for our building facilities. Thanks to your efforts, the final total for the Main-A-Vent fundraiser is $39,171. To accomplish this goal, you and others contributed your kindness in donating your time, talent or service which made a huge difference in the outcome of the event. Thanks to your willingness to give freely of your time, talent or service, the lives of many of our parish families will be improved. When you see for example, our students accomplishments in our parish school, you'll know that your efforts play an important role in making their successes possible.

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL

Please prayerfully consider how you will participate. Every gift matters. For info see www.CatholicAppeal.info.

A WORD OF THANKSGIVING

While the warm words spoken at last Sunday’s Celebration of the Sixtieth Anniversary of my ordination to the Priesthood still echo in my ears, and while the music and chanting of the congregation continues to enchant me with melody and song, I want to say a simple word of thanks to all who in any way contributed to this memorable celebration. As far as last Sunday’s Liturgy was concerned, I was totally surprised and greatly pleased when, in the sacristy before Mass, I suddenly heard the choir and instrumentalists singing and playing two responsories for which some years ago I had written the music! I had to brush off a bit of emotion when I realized to what lengths our musical personnel had gone to make this celebration especially memorable for me!

To all of you who joined in last Sunday’s Mass, or who in any way were part of the reception, especially those who arranged the decorations and provided the refreshments, my sincere thanks.  In supporting the Father Mick Burse, many of you were most generous.  To an additional number of you, who added personal gifts to me, please accept my gratitude, even without my writing a special note to you this time.  All these gifts I should like to hand over to the Burse.   For in my own and my late brother’s lives, we owe to those who have gone before us most of the years of our seminary training and education.  Please, then, count these words here as my special note of thanks to you.

To Father Armstrong, to our deacons and Liturgy personnel, and all who joined in this occasion of thanksgiving and praise, my sincerest thanks with a prayer that God bless us and keep us always in His care.

--Rev. Lawrence J. Mick

Father Larry Mick Burse: A Living Legacy

A burse is a permanently restricted endowment, with the interest used to help offset the cost of training local seminarians for the priesthood including tuition, room and board. To date, Fr. Mick’s Burse has $31,290! The goal of a burse is to fully endow one seminarian’s formation. Burses may receive additional capital over one’s lifetime, and even beyond, through inclusion in one’s will.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

This past Thursday we had two reasons for celebrating. Thursday, March 12, was the actual anniversary day of Fr. Mick’s ordination, in the year 1949. And it was on this past Thursday evening, too, that our seventh grade students were confirmed by our Coadjutor Archbishop Dennis Schnurr. Among the more important lessons we try to impart to our students here is their frequent reception of the Sacraments, and their obligation of Sunday Mass. But we also expose our students to the idea of vocations, specifically that vocation to which God may be calling them. For those who have now received the Sacrament of Confirmation, the next Sacraments they will likely receive, other than the regular sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation, will likely be the Sacrament of Matrimony, or, please the Lord, the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Parents can do much to help shape the views of their children in the matter of vocation. Please talk to them.

ALADDIN PLAY TICKETS for performances on Friday, March 20, at 7PM and Saturday, March 21, at 6PM in the school gym. Tickets are $5/adults, $3/students. Please see order form on the St. A web-site or call school for more details.

2009 GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS at Saint Peter in Chains Cathedral will be on Saturday, May 2, at 2PM. Principal celebrant will be Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk.

FROM DEACON DAVID ENDRES

Thank you for your prayers for me as I underwent my comprehensive exams and practice Mass exam. All were passed successfully. These represented the last of the major requirements for priestly ordination. I will be ordained on May 23, and will celebrate Mass for the first time at St. Antoninus on Pentecost Sunday, May 31, at the 11:30 Mass. All are invited to join me in this Mass of Thanksgiving for all the goodness that God has shown me in leading me to the priesthood and in thanksgiving for the prayers and support of my family and friends, and, of course, of our parish family of St. Antoninus.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

This week we celebrate the solemnity of the feast of St Joseph. He is such a strong protector of ours, especially at the time of death that we wish to honor him in prayer. The Seven Sorrows of Mary are well-known and celebrated in a chaplet of that name. What may not be so well-known is that there is such a chaplet in honor of the Seven Sorrows of St. Joseph. On Tuesday, Liz Donovan and Ben Klaene will lead us in its meditation and recitation. As we pray to him, he prays for us. Take advantage of the opportunity. In Chapel 7:30 PM.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

In today's Gospel, Jesus says: "My food is to do the will of the One who sent Me and to finish His work." The work of our Conference is to provide assistance to those who need help with rent and utility bills and the purchase of food. Your contribution placed in one of the poor boxes helps us to meet the obligations of our ministry.

“The Way of Love” Pro-Life 7th Annual Prayer Walk will be on Sunday, March 22, 29, and April 5th, at 2PM starting at the Burnett Woods bandstand in Clifton. For info call 314-9121 or see www.thewayoflove.org.

2009 ST. ANTONINUS FESTIVAL on June 12, 13,14th. Rides, entertainment, games, an air-conditioned Casino and great food. Volunteers are needed. Call our new co-presidents; Mike Rolfes at 451-6704 or Brian Bohan at 922-4313 for more info.
