FROM OUR PASTOR Recently, someone gave me a photocopy of an Easter card's message because it had struck a chord within that person: "As we lift high the cross, there's much to gain/ In the mystery and beauty the cross can contain./ The message it shares/ can bring great joy to you -/ Joy you can carry in all that you do./ It's a message of caring -a free gift of love-/ We only need accept from Our Father above./ In that cross is the sacrifice/ Jesus Christ made,/ So our souls could be cleansed/ with the great price He paid./ It's a personal promise to me and to you/ That God loves and accepts us when we love Him, too." I had mentioned the card's message to another person well acquainted with the Eastern Catholic Churches to which the person added: "We say to one another 'Christ is risen' and the response is 'He is truly risen.'" Easter is the vindication of the Cross. In His Resurrection, Jesus is cleared of all suspicion. He is not the lunatic or liar some took Him to be, but LORD, the Victor over sin and death, the One who lives forever and ever and Who shares His own divine life with us. Christ is risen! He is truly risen! Have a Blessed Easter! -- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong
THANKS TO Mr. Pepe Ramundo for donating the Paschal (Easter) Candle in memory of his late wife, Yvonne. Yvonne was a sacristan here at the parish for many years. May she know the glory of the Risen Lord.

The Lord has risen from the dead, Alleluia! Today we celebrate Christ’s triumph over sin and death. It is because Christ died and was raised that we ourselves can have hope in eternal life. That is what we celebrate at every Mass – that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross as well as His resurrection is intimately connected with our lives. When we receive the Eucharist, we receive the same Jesus that celebrated the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, died on Good Friday, and was gloriously raised on Easter Sunday. May we allow the Lord to abide in us this Sunday and every Sunday throughout the year.

THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA Begins on Good Friday and concludes on the Sunday after Easter. Our Lord makes extraordinary promises to those who pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy but above all to those who participated in the “Feast of Mercy” on the Second Sunday of Easter. The following is the Revelation made to St. Faustina; My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and a shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day are opened all the divine floodgates through which graces flow. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity. Everything that exists has come from the very depths of My most tender mercy. Every soul in its relation to Me will contemplate My love and mercy thoughout eternity. The Feast of Mercy emerged from the very depths of My tenderness. it is My desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy.
1. Celebrate the Feast on the Sunday after Easter. 2. Sincerely repent of all sins 3. Place complete trust in Jesus 4. Go to Confession, preferably before that Sunday 5. Receive Holy Communion on the day of the Feast 6. Venerate* the Image of The Divine Mercy 7. Be merciful to others, through one’s actions, words, and prayers on their behalf.
*To venerate a sacred image or statue simply means to perform some act or make some gesture of deep religious respect toward it because of the person whom it represents – in this case, our Most Merciful Savior.
HOW TO SAY THE CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY In 1933, God gave Sister Faustina a striking vision of His mercy. Sister tells us: “I saw a great light, with God the Father in the midst of it. Between this light and the earth I saw Jesus nailed to the Cross and in such a way that God, wanting to look upon the earth, had to look through Our Lord’s wounds. And I understood that god blessed the earth for the sake of Jesus”. Of another vision of September 13, 1935, she writes: “I saw an Angel, the executor of God’s wrath… about to strike the earth… I began to beg God earnestly for the world with words which I heard interiorly. As I prayed in this way, I saw the Angel’s helplessness, and he could not carry out the just punishment.” The following day an inner voice taught her to say this prayer on ordinary rosary beads:
Jesus said later to Sister Faustina: “Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Anyone who says it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites this chaplet even once will receive grace from My infinite Mercy. I want the whole world to know My infinite Mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to those who trust in My Mercy.” |

Knowing Internet Lingo Can Help Parents Safeguard Kids Online chat rooms, instant messaging systems, and even cell phones equipped to send text messages are environments rich in abbreviations, acronyms, and other shorthand that help increase the speed of communication. Parents need to become aware of some of the common lingo that is used in these environments. Some of these terms may be found to be vulgar, degrading, or otherwise offensive. However, parents and educators need to have a level of understanding of the dangers that face our children. Where Do Your Kids Go to Have Fun? Protecting children from harm extends beyond the time that they are under your direct supervision. Know where your children spend their time when school is out or they are not in the house. Where do they gather and play with other kids? Are there other adults in the area? If so, who are they, and what reason do they have to be there? Knowing the answers to these questions will help you to keep your kids safe even when you are not with them. Internet Spammers Target Kids, Too. Does your child know what to do when he or she gets an e-mail from an unknown person? If you are allowing your children to communicate with others online, be aware that they will be exposed to spam. The easiest way to avoid spam is to make sure that your children do not give out their personal information or e-mail address to anyone they do not know. Adjust the security settings on their e-mail account to filter or block unwanted messages. Encourage your children to delete any messages they get from anyone they don't know. Even when your children get e-mail or instant messages from people they know, make sure that they scan everything they are downloading for viruses first. You can do this by making sure that you have your antivirus software up to date. Source: www.netsmartz.orglsafety/saferytips.htm
Always Keep an Up-to-Date Photo of Your Child. Picture this: A good photo could save a child's life. One of the most important tools for law enforcement in the case of a missing child is an up-to-date (take a new one every six months), good-quality photograph. The photograph should be a recent head-and-shoulders color photograph of the child in which the face is clearly seen. It should be of school-portrait quality, and the background should be plain or solid so it does not distract from the subject. When possible, the photograph should be in a digitized form and available on a compact disk (CD), as opposed to just a hard copy. This minimizes the time necessary to scan, resize, and make color corrections before disseminating it to law enforcement. The photograph should have space for accurate, narrative description useful to identify the child, such as name, nickname, height, weight, sex, age, eye color, identifying marks, glasses, and braces. How to Report Inappropriate or Illegal Content on the Internet -One of the main reasons that children do not report the inappropriate content they find online is fear of punishment from parents. If you let them know that it is not their fault if they come across an inappropriate site, they will be more willing to come to you when it happens. If your children ever show you a site that contains illegal behavior, contact your Internet service provider and the CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com |
