FROM OUR PASTOR

On Friday, May 8, Archbishop Schnurr came to St. Antoninus for Mass, to lead us and all the children in the celebration of Mass on the Feast of our Patron a feast transferred this year to the eighth because the tenth fell on a Sunday of Easter. The Archbishop was particularly pleased with the reverence of the children throughout the Mass. That made me think of the comment of the Psalmist: “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom”, a gift of the Spirit, along with the other six given in Confirmation: Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude and Piety. Such gifts that help build up the Body of Christ are particularly sought during the annual novena to the Holy Spirit, beginning this year on Thursday, May 21, nine days before Pentecost. This novena recalls the directive of the Lord, given to His apostles nine days before Pentecost that they return to the Upper Room in Jerusalem and remain there till they were “clothed with power from on High”. I urge you, then, to pray this year for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit with his gifts upon our beloved parish. “Come, Holy Spirit, come and fill the hearts of thy Faithful!”

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

On May 7 we held our Spring Show with kindergarten, 5th, 6th and 8th grades. While the show appeared as if all students performed effortlessly, the work leading up to the show was immense. Mrs. Milano once again did a fantastic job, not just with our students but also with the organization of adult volunteers. The show was a wonderful culmination of parents, students, teachers, and other volunteers working together.

The following day, Co-Adjutor Archbishop Schnurr celebrated 8:00AM Mass observing the feast day of St. Antoninus. He also came to the school to visit our seventh graders. In the classroom, Archbishop Schnurr responded to student questions. Our students left our guest with a very positive impression of our parish and our school.

FROM DEACON DAVID ENDRES

Archbishop Pilarczyk has assigned me as chaplain and faculty member at Bishop Fenwick High School in Franklin, Ohio, near Middletown. I will teach senior year religion classes and be available for the spiritual needs of both students and faculty. I look forward to this opportunity to begin my priestly ministry.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

Having spent several weeks with teachings on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, it seems appropriate to hear about the experience of some of the recipients. So many of you seem eager to hear and learn more. We are delighted that Don Junker has volunteered to witness to how the seminar affected his spiritual life. We encourage others to do the same this week by briefly sharing their own stories. Such accounts bring positive encouragement to the rest of us. In Chapel, Tuesday 7:30 PM.

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND at the Comfort Inn in Erlanger, Kentucky, on July 17-19. For questions and RSVP call Keith and Lori at 1-800-547-1251, code 00 or website www.esharing.org.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

“It was the best times; it was the worst of times” (C. Dickens). Using today’s gift of astonishing technology, we just saw the vivid 4D video of our soon-to-be-born grandchild. The best of times!

However, my expectant daughter, her husband and my husband are graduates of Notre Dame. Like so many, we are outraged, deeply saddened by the University’s decision to confer an honorary law degree on abortion advocate President Obama as their UND ’09 Commencement speaker. A direct violation of the U.S. Bishops’ 2004 mandate in Catholics in Political Life: ‘The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.’” www.CardinalNewmanSociety.org Scandalous defiance. The mockery of what was Our Lady’s premier university honoring someone who supports mutilating children (all 9 mos./all 50 states)! The worst of times!

Nearly 60 bishops, archbishops and cardinals including Archbishop Pilarczyk have publicly led the outcry. Now engaged are Catholics never before engaged in this life/death battle. The best of times! Read Mary Ann Glendon’s rejection letter www.FirstThings.com/onthesquare/?p=1395 Support the Sycamore Project at ND www.projectsycamore.com and ND student effort in opposing Obama www.NDResponse.com.
