FROM OUR PASTOR

Every year it is our privilege to participate in the Mission Cooperative Plan of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  This year and this weekend our missionary preacher is Fr. Vincent Antie of the Diocese of Jasikan, Ghana.  Supporting the missions is both a right and a duty of all Catholics. As the Servant of God, the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen, a former head of the Propagation of the Faith in our country would often tell us, “Some give to the Missions by going, some go to the Missions by giving”.   We pray, the, for both kinds of givers, but especially for those who generously answer the call to go to the Missions, so that Jesus Christ is preached to every creature.

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

MISSIONARY COOPERATION PLAN 2009
The Diocese of Jasikan in Ghana, West Africa, has been assigned to our parish this year for the annual MISSIONARY COOPERATION PLAN. Just 14 years old, this diocese is in an area that lacks many basic necessities of life such as good roads, potable water, adequate health care and quality education. The population consists mostly of farmers who produce little more than subsistence income. Thus this diocese is dependent on outside financial assistance for many things, including the training of lay leaders, the education of seminarians, as well as for the much-needed new diocesan infrastructure.

Ghana has a stable, democratically elected government and the ability to feed itself, which has made it possible for the Church to concentrate on development and evangelization, resulting in significant growth. Please be generous in supporting this fledgling Diocese. Fr. Vincent Antie, of the Diocese of Jasikan, will speak at this weekend Masses on June 6-7TH.

Pilgrimage to Ireland:  Although many have expressed interest in the pilgrimage to Ireland, so far only four people have signed up.  I was informed by Best Catholic that the cut-off date is JUNE 13, after that the airline seats are released.  We need at least 20 people to sign up. If you wish to go, please sign up before JUNE 13.  Thanks. CRA

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

This year, St. Antoninus graduates are living proof of when the community of parents, parishioners, faculty, staff and students work together. A partial list of the accomplishments made by our graduating eighth graders is as follows: 17 first honors all year, 29 first honors at least once, 12 first and second honors all year, 3 second honors all year, 5 Math Counts Competition Team members, 21 Speech Contest Participants, 7 Spelling Bee participants, 2 Geography Bee participants, 3 American Institute of Architects competition team participants (won first place), 4 It’s Academic team participants (2nd place in competition), 6 students I know of asked to skip honors Algebra I (we added one since last column), and 17 Marion Awards. Marion Awards, Math Counts and all the other accolades don’t just happen. All of the above were a direct result of dedicated people taking an interest in our students. I want to thank all the adult volunteers who generously gave of their time. Without you we could not sustain the excellence that St. Antoninus School is known for.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

The Catechism tells us that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are granted to us in order that we may cooperate in the salvation of others. Often, we ignore the spiritual gift of evangelist because we don’t want to be “different.” It was once asked, “If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” Mark Mussman will speak on this important gift of evangelist and the many ways that you can use it in your daily life. The salvation of someone you love could depend on you! In Chapel, Tuesday,7:30 PM.
