Remember St. Antoninus in your will.

+

Both widows in today’s readings gave all they had to the work of the Lord, one using all her remaining food to feed Elijah, and the other offering her two copper coins to the temple treasury. Faithful stewards give all that is asked and trust the Lord to be faithful to His promises.

FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

"I see a day when every member of St. Antoninus engages in Stewardship...when every member feels called to serve our brothers and sisters in some capacity for transforming our world for the better." As I was typing that sentence a flood of activities here at our parish came flooding into my mind. If you were to go to the front of the bulletin and read the list of parish organizations, you'd begin to realize how much and how many parishioners are engaged in the transformation of the world. If you read through the bulletin itself from week to week, you'd see how surely members are light, leaven and salt in this world of ours. The measure of spiritual health includes not only life satisfaction, giving and inviting, but serving. It is Jesus’ command at the Last Supper to the Twelve after He has washed their feet: "As I have done, so you also must do." It is worth asking oneself: how have I imitated Jesus, the Foot-washer, in my life today?

-- Fr. Christopher R. Armstrong

Pilgrimage to Oberammergau: An information meeting will be held on Sunday, November 8, in the undercroft after the 11:30AM Mass. See the brochures in the greeting room for information.

On behalf of Bishop Gabriel Mante of the Diocese of Jasikan, Ghana, we wish to offer thanks to the parishioners of St. Antoninus for donating $4,310.00 though the Missionary Cooperation Plan, and for your hospitality to Msgr. Vincent Antie.

A Marriage Encounter “Weekend of Romance and Renewal”, Nov. 21 & 22 at St. Antoninus Church. Spend a wonderful weekend of private discussions with your spouse. Enjoy an intimate dinner for two, all for only $59. Questions/reservations/www.marriageweekend.org, or call Gene/Mary Kay at 681-2794 or Don/Kathy at 574-1717

In the interest of fundraising for the church on a regular basis, various gift cards are sold each week before and after each Mass (and at the Rectory). In addition to providing these gift cards we are adding the Scrips Gift Card program. An order form is available at the gift card table in the elevator lobby. You can pre-order gift cards from various vendors, make your check payable to St. Antoninus Church, and place your order with your payment at the gift card table located in the elevator lobby. You may pick up your order the following weekend. Vendors pay St. Antoninus a percentage for selling their gift cards (example, Biggs pays us 6% of each dollar). This money is used for the operating expenses of our parish. This program requires no extra money. You simply purchase gift cards from the vendors you normally use. St. Antoninus benefits from your patronage. Thank you for supporting St. Antoninus Parish.

Education Commission Meeting on Monday, November 16, at 7:30 PM in the school conference room. If you would like to speak at the meeting, please call Marty Ludwig at 451-5270 by Monday, November 9, to be put on the agenda

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL – JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

Parent-Teacher conferences start next week. The dates are November 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th. Letters to parents for conferences were sent out in the report card envelope. Conferences are another way to strengthen parent-teacher communication. Going to conferences reinforces to our students that education is important. Our school will be an H1N1 vaccination location for our students as soon as the health department receives enough of the vaccine. Currently there is a shortage and we have no way of knowing when the health department is coming. For those who have signed up their children, please be patient. In the mean time, continue to remind children to wash their hands. We will continue to provide hand sanitizer in the cafeteria for student use.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

* * The next regular meeting of our Conference will be this Tuesday, November 10, at 3PM in the Holy Family Room of the undercroft. You are invited to come and learn about our work.

FROM OUR SEMINARIAN INTERN, MATTHEW J. ROBBEN

Andrew’s Dinner: This past Wednesday I attended and spoke at the Andrew’s Dinner hosted by Coadjutor Archbishop Schnurr at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. The theme of the dinner was based on John 1:40-42 when Andrew brings his brother Simon to meet the Messiah. Local pastors were asked to identify young men in their parishes who they believe might have a vocation to the priesthood. These men were then invited to dinner with the Archbishop to learn a few vocation discernment tools. One theme that emerged from dinner was the difficulty of discerning any vocation in society today. They (most 16-18 yrs old) discussed the challenges they face of trying to pray and lead a moral life in our cynical society. I sympathize with their struggles because discerning a vocation to the priesthood is not easy, it takes self sacrifice, prayer, and a whole lot of community support. These sacrifices, however, lead to the joy of a deep, intimate relationship with Christ. Whether these men follow a call to the priesthood or follow another vocation, I applaud their attempt to sacrifice their will for God’s. Please pray for these men as they discern a call to the priesthood. It is difficult alone, but with prayer and community support, we can make the journey a little bit easier.

Neighborhood Rosary Groups for Life would meet weekly to pray the rosary together in the home of the leader on the day and time convenient to the group. If you are able to participate, or want info call Dave Willig 451-6192, or Joanie Loebker 922-0348.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

Becoming more familiar with Scripture sets us on the right path to Jesus and heaven. Our lives are so full of duties and distractions that it is easy to put off the pursuit of a good prayer life. Toward that end, we will explore a familiar Scripture passage for words that speak to our hearts and our lives. Be sure to bring your Bible.

In addition we will hear a witness of one member’s grace-filled experience with the healing service conducted by Carmelo Cortez and the gift of the rose petals. It is a touching story of the Blessed Mother’s love working through Carmelo. In Chapel, 7:30 PM.
