Remember St. Antoninus in your will.

In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him.  May we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the psalmist, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.:   See 1 Samuel 3:4; Psalm 40

FROM OUR PASTOR

I remember watching on TV the race riots of the 1960s in the sun room of my next store neighbor, Ruby Head, almost a grandmother to our family.  She grew up in the segregated South, in Birmingham, Alabama to be exact.  I do not remember the year but I distinctly remember her reaction to Governor Wallace turning the hoses on black students trying to enter a school.  She hung her head in shame and wept.   I really was too young to grasp what was going on.  When I was in the eighth grade, Martin Luther King was shot.  That summer I was with my Dad on a business trip in Memphis TN, the city where MLK met his death.  Along with my younger brother and sister, we walked around the very neighborhood where the riots had taken place just a few weeks before.  My Dad wanted us to witness history.  (I'm pretty sure he did not tell my Mom where we were strolling!).  All of those memories and many more come flooding back to me as tomorrow we remember the legacy of Martin Luther King.  Although imperfect, like most of us, he did remind us that we can be greater than we are, both personally and as a country.  His example of personal courage in the face of numerous obstacles will inspire all of us, I hope, with the same zeal to defend human dignity and equality, grounded in Natural Law and Divine Revelation.

TRY ELECTRONIC FUNDS TRANSFER (EFT) through your bank. You can set up specific dates and withdrawal amounts.  For info please call our business manager, Mrs. Steffany Reid at 922-5400.

STOCK DONATION PROCEDURES

As a reminder, donations of stock will be processed through the Parish’s individual custodial account at the      Fifth Third Bank.  It is imperative that the broker identify the donor’s name in the delivery instructions.  The shares will be sold within 48 hours of receipt.  If you have questions about this process, please contact the Business Manager, Steffany Reid, at 922-5400.

40-HOURS DEVOTION –

LITURGICAL MINISTERS MEETING

On the weekend of February 3-5, 2012, we will observe 40 Hours of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  Exposition begins after the 8:00am Mass on Friday, February 3rd, and concludes with a procession and Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament at the end of the 11:30 Mass on Sunday, February 5th.

All liturgical ministers (ushers, musicians, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, adult altar servers) are invited to attend a gathering on Saturday morning, February 4th.  We will attend the 8:00am Mass together and spend time before the Blessed Sacrament.  We will move to the undercroft at 9:00a.m. for coffee and donuts and a presentation by Mr. Andrew Cordonnier, our seminarian intern, and a very brief business meeting.  This meeting will end no later than 10:30am.

If you plan to attend, please contact Deacon Bob Schroeder at 922-4759 or via e-mail at w8cro@arrl.net.   It is important to let him know so that we may make adequate preparations.

The St. Antoninus Worship Commission is assembling a booklet of reflections on the daily Mass readings for the upcoming Easter season.  This booklet will be distributed to our parishioners.  We are asking for student (7th grade and older) and adult parishioners to write a short reflection on one of the Mass readings for one day of the Easter season.  Submissions should be a maximum of 250 words and are due at the end of February.  All submissions will be edited.  If you would like to write a reflection, contact Mary Meyer at 451-6332 or mkmeyer326@gmail.com for more information.  Writing a reflection for the booklet is a great way to be involved in parish life!

FROM MR. JACK COREY, PRINCIPAL

Dear Parishioners,

As a follow up to last week’s bulletin article, we have now opened up all-day kindergarten registration.  We need 15 students registered by March 15th, to make all-day kindergarten a reality.  The all-day option is on a first come, first serve basis.  We will only take 20 students for our all-day kindergarten.  After the first twenty spots are filled we will start a waiting list.

Kindergarten tuition has not been set but the all-day session will be $1,500.00 more than the cost of the half-day option.  This current 2011-2012 year half-day kindergarten costs $1,675.00.  This means next year kindergarten with all-day option tuition will be $3,175.00, plus any tuition increase set by the Finance Council.  If you have any questions, please call the school office at 922-2500 or check out our Facebook page at St. Antoninus Parish and Parish School.

This Monday, January 16th, the school and school office are closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  Classes will resume Tuesday, January 17th.

FROM ANDREW CORDONNIER SEMINARIAN INTERN

Last time I mentioned the fact that it was National Vocations Awareness week, and gave a few of the major points of my vocation story.

I feel like I’m crazy for doing it, but I signed up for the Flying Pig Marathon in May.  Granted, I am only doing a 5k, and moreover, I am doing it to promote vocations, but still!  A few years ago, a newly ordained priest told me that he was running a 5k and asked if I would join him.  I politely declined, because we Cordonnier boys are built for short sprints, not marathons!  I also vowed that I would never participate in a race like that! He retorted with “Never say never!”  Even then, I thought his was an ominous answer, as if he knew something that I didn’t—and maybe he did!  I am starting to train now because when I signed up for this “Run for the Call,” I thought that 5k = 1.5 miles, when in reality it is just over, 3.1 miles.  Whoops!  Oh well…never say never! Right?

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

Our culture is attempting to re-define marriage in their own terms without listening to God’s word and His plan for marriage. The Bible itself begins and ends with the theme of marriage – in the Book of Genesis beginning with Adam and Eve and ending in the Book of Revelation with the wedding feast of the Lamb. The foundation of marriage is spoken of throughout all of Scripture and is definitely a part of God’s plan for mankind.

This summer at the Bible Institute there was a seminar offered entitled, The Prophetic Vision for Marriage. Mary Handermann will present a teaching on Tuesday evening called God’s Vision for Marriage – taken from this seminar. Come and learn how to defend to your family and friends the great plan of the Lord. In Chapel at 7:30 PM.

THE EDUCATION COMMISSION will meet on Monday, February 13, at 7:30 pm in the school conference room.  Please contact Mariellen Rechtin at trechtin@fuse.net if you have an agenda item to discuss.

The Girl Scouts will be having a Toy & Clothing Sale, Saturday, April 28, 2012.  If you, a friend or relative have items you wish to sell, the GS will sell your gently used baby items on your behalf, with the GS receiving a percentage of your sales.  More details to follow later this month.

BABYSITTING FOR THE 9:30AM MASS, for children up through 4 years of age will be available only if requests are made. Please call Linda DeSantis at 347-0241 at least one week in advance.

St. Teresa of Avila Children's Bingo will be on February 12th, from 12:30-3:30 pm in the undercroft.  The cost is just $4.00 at the door which includes a slice of pizza, beverage of your choice, snack, and one bingo card. There will be more pizza, beverages, snacks, and bingo cards available for additional charge.  We also have our Raffles.  If you have any questions call, Sabrina McCane 477-6644 or mccanesa@yahoo.com

Natural Family Planning will be taught at St. Lawrence Church in Price Hill starting Wednesday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m.  Please register with Sheila Kippley at 661-7396.
