St. Antoninus Athletic Club Code of Conduct

COACHES

  1. Focus on fun and teaching, not just winning.

  2. Know the rules of the game.

  3. Practice good sportsmanship and be positive with the players. Insist upon good sportsmanship exhibited by your players and their parents.

  4. Recognize abilities of players and have realistic expectations of their ability to perform.

  5. Come to practice and games prepared. Let the players know the same is expected of them.

  6. Encourage and reward new effort and new learning.

  7. Keep in mind the game is for the children.

  8. Always respect the dignity of other, including players, parents, coaches and officials.

  9. Be responsible for the safety of your players at practice and at games until a parent picks them up. Stay with everyone until the last player is picked up or make arrangements for another responsible adult to be present.

  10. Establish your expectations with the players and parents at the beginning of the year. This can be done either in writing, email, or in meeting form with both parents and athletes.

  11. Coaches are expected to play each child with respect to that sport’s governing rules.

  12. Coaches are encouraged to play all children as much as possible while still remaining competitive.

  13. Follow Policies and Procedures of the Archdiocesan Decree on Child Protection.

 

PARENTS OF PLAYERS

  1. Support your child by giving encouragement and sharing an interest in his/her team sport.

  2. Set a positive example by showing good sportsmanship.

  3. Notify the coach regarding any conflicts resulting in your child being able to participate in practice or a game.

  4. Do not expect your child to have equal playing time if they do not fully participate in practices.

  5. Parents are expected to have their children at practice and games on time as well as picking them up from practice and games on time.

  6. Parents are encouraged to discuss problems or questions directly with coach preferably not in the presence of players. It is recommended that the coach be contacted either by phone or email.

  7. On rare occasions, the direct approach described in Point 6 may not be possible. In those rare instances, where this is not possible, please see the Complaint Procedure for the St. Antoninus Athletic Club(*) for any formal complaint that a parent wishes to file.
