Know the rules of the game.
Practice good sportsmanship and be
positive with the players. Insist upon good sportsmanship
exhibited by your players and their parents.
Recognize abilities of players and
have realistic expectations of their ability to perform.
Come to practice and games prepared.
Let the players know the same is expected of them.
Encourage and reward new effort and
new learning.
Keep in mind the game is for the
children.
Always respect the dignity of other,
including players, parents, coaches and officials.
Be responsible for the safety of
your players at practice and at games until a parent picks them
up. Stay with everyone until the last player is picked up or make
arrangements for another responsible adult to be present.
Establish your expectations with the
players and parents at the beginning of the year. This can be done
either in writing, email, or in meeting form with both parents and
athletes.
Coaches are expected to play each
child with respect to that sport’s governing rules.
Coaches are encouraged to play all
children as much as possible while still remaining competitive.
