Dear Fellow Parishioners,
Your prayers and tenacious public
witness for life continue to make a difference! We share the hope that
the current “Health”care bills will be unsuccessful in
institutionalizing the Culture of Death in America…not only must
abortion no longer be viewed as health care but the evil of euthanasia
and assisted suicide must be explicitly excluded as well. With
the surprise recent election of Brown in Mass. it appears that there
is more hope of protecting life. Prayers.
Nationally and locally, our joint
diligence is needed to address attacks on the sanctity of human life:
pro life pregnancy centers are under attack. Baltimore’s city council,
despite the strong opposition by local Catholic hierarchy, passed a
restriction law backed up with hefty fines and aimed solely at pro
life centers. The University of Cinti. student newspaper and others
elsewhere in the country have purposefully maligned local pro life
pregnancy centers (though UC editors had the truth in hand they chose
not to use it).
Cincinnati City Council (12/16/09)
enacted an appalling new “Right of Way” sign ordinance legislation
(sponsor, Chris Bortz), aimed at stifling the current constitutionally
protected freedom of speech of pro life sidewalk-counselors in front
of abortion death sites. (see
SaintAntoninus.org/Organizations/pro-life)
On the surface the law appears to only address vendors but in fact, it
is actually the covert suppression of one’s free speech as a social
justice demonstrator…which is its original intent as Planned
Parenthood has long sought to stop the current “bad for their bu$iness”
pro life signage from being in front of their abortion headquarters
see
CincinnatiRighttoLife.org. The law passed (5-4) despite our
presentation of strong legal precedents, the Archdiocese’s pro life
efforts and the articulate arguments supporting free speech expression
given by City Council members Cecil Thomas, Chris Monzel and Leslie
Ghiz (shared also by Charlie Winburn). Mr. Bortz actually told me:
“there’s only one vote per person so there should only be one
sign/person!”
But through it all,
how inspiring it is to see the future in the faces of our young
students! On 1/22 tens of thousands marched in Wash. DC for LIFE.
Closer to home our parish eighth graders welcomed me and other pro
life witnesses for their Everybody Counts program. Thanks!
They know we are of infinite value because each is a child of God!
Not the criteria of “wantedness” espoused by the Culture of Death.
The students have it right: “A person’s a person no matter how small”!
God is good!

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
They were stolen from across an ocean, taken from their homes, locked
in chains and brought to a new land. For more than 200 years, their
blood and sweat would help to build the richest and most powerful
nation the world has known.
But when slavery ended, their welcome was over…according to some of
America’s bigoted leaders who then decided it was time for these
people to disappear and they were not particular about how it might be
done. The plan that was set in motion 150 yrs. ago is still being
carried out today: now eugenics and legalized abortion
combine as America’s deadly force that has reduced the black
population in the US by about 25%! Some of the most powerful leaders
of the socialist and humanist movements of the 20th century
are some of the worst racists, on the same level as Adolph Hitler but
they’re much more devious.
Planned Parenthood’s
racist origins (formerly Margaret Sanger’s American Birth Control
League) are attributed to this goal of exterminating the black
population. Abortion is the #1 killer of blacks in America. In 2004
legalized abortion killed 2.8 times as many blacks than HIV/AIDS,
heart disease, gang violence, cancer and accidents combined.
Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry position their death
sites within the minority communities and near their schools. It is 5
times more abortion-threatening for a black unborn baby than a white
unborn child.
Today, you pro life civil rights advocates are strongly encouraged to
view this eugenics plan in the exceptional film, MAAFA 21,
Black Genocide in the 21st Century. (www.MAAFA21.com).
MAAFA is Swahili for “tragedy/disaster”. This timely documentary is a
very carefully reasoned and well produced expose of the abortion
industry, racism and eugenics.
Thankfully, the evil of slavery is now understood in our culture to be
despicable, absurd. So, why isn’t it so with abortion, sold through
the “choice” propaganda? For a parallel look consider this Lent,
reading Edward P. Jones’ Pulitzer Prize winning historical novel,
The Known World. Family/school/parish discussions are
perfect. Black History month is just completed…so for the sake of our
country let’s commit to becoming better tools for God to utilize in
rectifying this horrific social injustice. (www.BlackGenocide.org)
Meantime, keep sending those calls/emails/letters to our U.S. Senators
and Representatives. Your efforts remain vital to stopping any
“Health” Care Bill from institutionalizing the culture of death
into our America: Abortion and Euthanasia are NOT HEALTHCARE!
Pray.
God is good!

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
What does the nomination of Elena Kagan
to the U.S. Supreme Court have to do with abortion funding in the
sweeping health care reform law of March 2010? (Americans United for
Life) In addition to provisions of the health care law itself that
may be challenged before the Supreme Court, the new “opt-out” laws
that pro-life state legislatures are enacting, may also be challenged
by abortion supporters. Arizona,
Mississippi and Tennessee have already enacted “opt-out” legislation.
The legislatures of Louisiana and Missouri have also passed “opt-out”
bills that are pending the signature of their governors. Several more
states are considering “opt-out” bills. Even the President’s
executive order, which hollowly claims to apply the Hyde Amendment to
the new health law, may be challenged by the abortion lobby to remove
it.
Americans
United for Life’s model law cites
Rust v. Sullivan, a 1991 case in which the Supreme Court held
Congress’s decision not to fund abortion “places no governmental
obstacle in the path of a woman who chooses to terminate her
pregnancy”. A state may engage in unequal subsidization of abortion
and other medical services in order to encourage child-bearing
deemed in the public interest.
However,
nominee Kagan, a financial donor to the abortion industry, has
extensively criticized the foundation upon which these laws rest, that
is, the decision in Rust. Kagan argues that the regulations
upheld by the Court amount to unconstitutional viewpoint
discrimination. In a 1993 law review article Kagan wrote, “the Court
[in Rust], to its discredit, announced that
because the selectivity occurred in the context of a governmental
funding program, the presumption against viewpoint discrimination was
suspended”
(emphasis added).
In other words, Kagan does not think that the provision of government
funding provides enough justification for the government to favor
childbirth over abortion.
Many issues stemming from the new
health care reform may come before the Court; only two are discussed
here. Senators need to ask, and America deserves an answer.
NOTE: A comprehensive body of legal analysis on Kagan's record - can

Their conclusion is that her
nomination should be opposed for any number of reasons. Study and then
contact our two U.S. Senators today . Pray.
“We
are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death
and life, the 'culture of death' and the 'culture of life.' We find
ourselves not only 'faced with' but necessarily 'in the midst of' this

inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally
pro-life.”

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
You and I are engaged in the
historic spiritual battle of our times. The Gospel of Life and the
Culture of Death. “Above all,
the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights –
for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to culture – is
false and illusionary if the right to life, the most basic and
fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is
not defended with maximum determination.” (Pope John Paul II
Christifideles Laici). The right to life
is the underpinning of all our concerns for social justice.
In today’s battle, language itself is
a powerful weapon: a tool for advancing truth with love…or a tool for
disguising the horrid lie of evil. From the time of Adam
and Eve, humans have been tempted to eat the fruit of the lie. It’s a
“marketing job”.
Let us recognize some of the lies of
evil underpinning the barbaric practice of slavery (humans legalized
this evil as well): I wouldn’t own a slave but I shouldn’t impose my
beliefs on your right to own another human; keep your religion out of
my right to keep my business profitable with slaves; it’s legal so
slavery must be alright even if it is ‘distasteful’ to you; my
household, my choice; it’s really a battle between state and federal
rights…isn’t it?
The language of the lie attempted to
mask the barbaric evil of the Nazi’s “Jewish solution” and the death
camps where millions were murdered, experiments performed on those who
“were going to die anyway so they may as well be useful to science”,
“efficiently” finding “secondary profitable uses” for the bodies of
those murdered.
Now, consider reading through the above
paragraphs, inserting the barbaric evils of abortion and euthanasia.
The language of the lie.
The elected representative: “I’m
personally opposed to abortion/euthanasia, but I represent all the
people and I can’t be expected to vote that way all the time. I voted
to fund Planned Parenthood again because they do a lot of good for the
poor…don’t they”.
Now, let’s put the word slavery
in the previous sentence: “I’m personally opposed to buying and
selling human beings, don’t own any slaves myself, but I represent all
the people and I can’t be expected to vote that way all the time…I
voted to fund the Slave Owners again because they do a lot of good for
the poor…don’t they”.
The lie of evil is cast in such
beguiling language of legality: “pro choice” (not pro death of a
child), “my body, my choice”. The wounding of parents and families is
camouflaged, the profit of culling body parts is hidden, the
destruction of our youth is window dressed (last week, five students
were seen walking into Planned Parenthood only yards from Western
Hills High School…in the time of waiting for one nearby traffic light
to change)!
We must not allow ourselves to be lulled
into solely seeking “to reduce” the number of children dying through
abortions, parents wounded. In truth, this is only an admirable goal
if it is but one part of each pro life person/group’s determined
commitment to work "to end” this barbaric evil of abortion and
its legalization. Slaves deserved freedom; slavery abolished…not
merely a reduction in numbers!
As Catholics, it
is our Christian duty to leaven society by courageously speaking the
truth about what it means to be human--that human nature is more
than biology, more than matter in motion. It is sacred. That we are
created from conception in God’s image with immortal souls; that our
life in this world should only end with a natural death, when we
will finally realize our true destiny and fully experience the true,
the good, and the beautiful in the presence of God. (Anthony J.
Aretz, Ph.D. President of the College of Mount St. Joseph).
”.
Let’s be especially astute in discerning
the lie so we prayerfully, with courage, will then think/speak/act…and
yes, vote…accordingly.
God is good!

Dear Fellow Parishioners,
Who do you trust to best represent your
heartfelt concerns as a Catholic and American citizen? That’s yours
and my VOTE at all levels of our democracy. Pope John Paul II
tried to warn us:
“We are now
standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation
humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of
American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize
this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the
Church and the anti-Church, the Gospel versus the anti-gospel. This
confrontation lies within the plan of Divine Providence; it is a
trial which the whole Church must take up.”
Karol Cardinal Wojtyla while
visiting America, 1972
Note: Building on the federal
passage of the Health Care Reform law, the leader of
America’s largest abortion chain, has revealed the next phase of their
long-term goals: Planned Parenthood
Federation of America is
launching its
major campaign
to have all prescription birth control listed as "preventive care",
thus mandating that under our new Health Care Reform law
(PL 111-148)
all new private health plans must cover 100% of the cost! Kathleen
Sibelius (pro
abortion director, Dept of Health/Human Services)
is deliberating this.
Pray.
But that's not
all. Classifying so-called birth control as "preventive care" would
ensure tax dollars will pay for all prescription birth control
for Medicaid recipients, a number of which provide abortion actions
and all of which are immoral and intrinsically evil.
Nancy Kachel,
president and CEO, PP of Arkansas/E. Oklahoma,
"For one thing
it would be covered under Medicaid
at the state level so it would be finally a state mandate that it be
covered for free, that there be no co-pays and that it is easily
accessible."
With both
private insurers and state Medicaid programs being required to pay
100% of the cost of contraceptives, it would be a win-win Situation
for Planned Parenthood, who would stand to pocket more money than
ever from its $ale of contraceptives, which, in 2008, comprised 35% of
PP’s business! PP buys at rock bottom prices, inflates the sales
price by as much as 12 x their acquisition cost so it comes as no
surprise that Planned Parenthood is pouring its seemingly unlimited
resources into this unconscionable campaign. If birth control makes
the list of preventive services, Planned Parenthood will be laughing
all the way to the bank.
In addition to forcing taxpayers to pay for
contraception, classifying birth control as preventive health
care
will take away the right of
employers and insurance providers to follow their consciences
and exclude birth control from health care policies as they are
currently able to do! Such evil treachery.

Dear Fellow
Parishioners,
Good News
to share during this Advent Season of HOPE:
-An
historic ruling against the abortion chain, Planned Parenthood, brings
further justice for a sexually abused teen and her parents! Hamilton
County Common Pleas Court Judge Jody Luebbers has ruled in the case of
the minor girl who was sexually abused by an adult male then brought
to Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Ohio for an abortion. The
ruling states that Planned Parenthood failed to obtain informed
consent for the abortion from the child, required under Ohio law. The
case has been in progress since 2005. The tenacious attorney for the
young girl, Brian Hurley, received the 2009 St. Antoninus Heroes
for Life award as well as Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati's
2010 Life Award. Brian is leading two, potentially
precedent-setting, cases against Planned Parenthood for allegedly
ignoring laws: laws that require reporting suspected or known abuse
of minors, receiving parental consent and providing informed consent.
“Someone needed to stand up for these two young women because, quite
frankly, it is the right thing to do. In both cases we are
representing individuals who were teenagers when they became pregnant
and were poor…One thing that has bothered me is the disdain, the scorn
with which Planned Parenthood has treated these teens. If no one
stands up for them, others like them will be abused.” He has the
opportunity to make a lasting impact, to help protect minors from
abuse as required by law.
-Abortionist closes Jefferson Ave. abortion site! Your
prayers answered! After 8 years of our Lenten rosary pilgrimage,
The Way of Love, the doors are being closed on this site near the
University of Cincinnati where thousands have legally been killed and
thousands of their parents have been wounded. The physician who
operates the abortion site had the added notoriety as a leading
national supporter of partial-birth abortion and late term abortion.
Sadly though, he still plans to open another site outside the city.
Perseverance in prayer and witness are needed.
Together, the
HOPE is to prayerfully make a difference for life: educationally,
legislatively and from the judicial side. Check out

As we kneel
before the manger this Christmas, let us pray for the conversion of
those who support the culture of death. As each of us seeks to bring
the Gospel of Life, may the Christ Child continue to bless our
service, Our Blessed Mother be our intercessor, and may St. Joseph be
our role model and protector of all families. Holy Family, pray for
us.
