Mrs. Burke's 2nd Quarter Letter

Dear fifth grade parents,

I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to believe that it’s second quarter already.

I hope your child has informed you that the DARE program has started. DARE graduation will probably be in January, but I will let you know when a definite date has been set.  Some of the topics that will be covered in science this quarter are states of matter, electricity and magnetism.

In Math, we will be working on long division with whole numbers and decimals. If your child still has not mastered his/her tables this can be a very frustrating and difficult experience. So please continue to review the basic math facts.

In social studies we will be studying populations and cultures of the world as well as natural resources. After Thanksgiving each child will be assigned a specific country for a project that will be due around the middle of January. I will be assigning the countries  early so that students have time to write to the assigned country for information if they would like to do that.

Thanks again for all of your help and support.

Sincerely,

Mary Burke

Mrs. Lipps' 4th Quarter Letter

Dear Parents,

The school year has really gone by fast.  The fourth quarter is always a challenge for students to stay focused.  Please remind them that school comes first.

In Religion, we are still covering a chapter a week.  I have started to make up my own test.  This test will be over two chapters at a time.  Test will probably be every other week.   We will be going to the Seminary on April 14, 2008. This will be an all day event.

In reading your child will be expected to read two AR books.  All of the children know about this requirement.  Please have them read every night.

All parents should have received the results of the Archdiocese writing sample test.  Most of our students scored in the 3 to 5 range.  Writing is still a skill that most fifth graders need to work on.   The big writing project for fourth quarter will be writing our own children’s book. We have been talking and working on this all year.

Thank you for making this school year a very enjoyable one.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to call me.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lipps
