Mrs. Baldwin's 4th Quarter Letter

April 2, 2008

Dear 7th Grade Parents,

As the school year winds down, our days will continue to be filled with new information, new skills, and new concepts in preparation for the eighth grade year.  In writing, we will conclude with expository writing.  The purpose of the expository essay, also termed exposition, is to inform, clarify, define, explain, or analyze.

In our English textbooks, we will cover chapters 7 and 11 on modifiers (adjectives and adverbs) and pronouns.  An exam will happen the second last week of school.  It is cumulative and we will begin to review in the early part of May.  All tests and quizzes have been returned to the students throughout the year and they may use these to review.

We are currently on Unit 11 in Vocabulary Workshop. The pacing of the units will be completed in seven school days so that we will finish the book.  The students will then prepare to take an exam over all the units in the book.  That score will count as two test scores for the quarter.  A spelling exam will also be administered over all the words in the Level B book and count as two test scores.

The students did a good job at memorizing their speeches which was a component of their English grade for this fourth quarter.  Unfortunately, I can only send two for each category to the contest to be held at Seton on April 15th at 7:00.  Your child should have informed you by now if they are participating in the contest.

Have an enjoyable summer.

Sincerely,

Michelle Baldwin

Mrs. Heisel's 1st Quarter Letter

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome to 7th grade Math! I’m very excited about the opportunity to get to know all of you, and I’m looking forward to a fun and productive school year.  I am extremely eager to be back teaching in the classroom after nine years of staying home and raising my children. Upon graduating from the College of Mt. St. Joseph, I taught 6th and 7th grade at Norwood Middle School until I had my first child. My husband, Scot, who is also a teacher, and I have four children. We are all active members here at St. Antoninus parish. I’m sure I’ll see a lot of you at the sports fields, as well as in the classroom!

7th Grade Math – We will begin the year with a little bit of review, and then will progress quickly into order of operations, variables and expressions, powers and exponents, and areas of figures.

Some things to remember throughout the school year:

·        Please have all materials and replace them when needed.

·        If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up any missing work/assignments/tests in a timely manner. Please see me and we can work this out.

·        Late assignments/homework, due to student neglect, will result in the assignment being lowered one letter grade.

·        Please remember that math assignments are ALWAYS done in pencil!

·        Grades are based on class assignments, homework, tests, quizzes, and student participation.

·        Grading Scale

100-93% A      92-85% B        84-77% C        76-70% D        69-0% F

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I welcome and encourage parental/teacher communication. I can be reached by email, heisel@saintantoninus.org, or you can call the school office and leave a message for me, 922-2500. I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to working with you as we strive to have your child reach his/her greatest potential.

Once again, welcome to 7th Grade. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Angie Heisel

Confirmation Dress Code

Dear Parents,

Since Confirmation is approaching, I thought it might be a good time to offer some guidelines for proper attire for the sacrament of Confirmation.

Boys: Dress pants and dress shirt with dress shoes  A tie would be nice but not necessary. Sweaters are fine. It is not necessary to wear a sports jacket, though they are certainly welcome to if they have one.

Girls:  Dresses or skirts and sweaters or blouses. Choices should be appropriately modest for a sacramental occasion.

I've talked to the students and encouraged them not to make this issue of clothing an emotional or financial burden for their parents.  I hope that helps.

Just a reminder that the students should be in the undercroft by 7:00 with their sponsors on the evening of their Confirmation, March 6th. The directions for the sponsors will be given there. The families can go right to the church and sit anywhere that is not reserved for the Confirmation candidates and their sponsors.  The Confirmation Liturgy will begin at 7:30.

Mrs. Obermeyer's Fourth Quarter Religion Letter

RELIGION HIGHLIGHTS FOR HOME

GRADE 7 - FOURTH QUARTER

Through faith you are all children of God in Jesus Christ.

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Galatians 3:26-27

Dear Parents,

Now that Confirmation is behind us, we will be back to business as usual in Religion class.  The students are back to their Creed textbook, and we will be covering as much material as possible in this last quarter.

In the last weeks of the quarter, the students will be given a comprehensive study guide to complete in order to prepare for the final exam.   This exam will cover everything they have studied this year.  Everything necessary to prepare for this exam is on the study guide.  Please encourage your child not to wait to the last minute to study.

These last few weeks can be a time when students do not complete homework, and do not come to school with the needed school supplies.  Please have your children check to make sure they have all needed supplies such as pens, pencil, paper, scissors, etc.  Any help you could give in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Wishing you the joys and blessings of this Holy Easter Season!

Mrs. Jan Obermeyer
