The art room
We
have been very busy this year. 4th grade has just
finished their beautiful kimonos….a project to coincide with their
study of Japan. In this project the students used watercolor
to paint the authentic kimono….then they wove different papers to
make the obi, the traditional sash worn with the kimono. These
turned out to be so beautiful.
The
5th grade is working diligently on their woven wall
hangings. The project requires 5 different textured items that are
woven together to make the weaving…..the students also had to have a
theme for their wall hanging…. These are looking very very nice.
The
6th grade completed their Roman coins, roman mosaic piece
and will now create their own illuminated initial. Illuminated
manuscripts were very much a part of Medieval times which the 6th
grade is studying.
The
7th grade just completed a work that explored white
colored pencil on black paper to create a sacred circle which showed
a source of light and the many values of white colored pencils.
These are now on display. The class also made their Confirmation
Crosses and will finish glazing next week.
The
8th grade created “action figure” sculptures out of foil
and tape…..and they started working on enlarged flowers inspired by
Georgia O’Keefe.
I
sincerely hope that you will frame a piece of your child’s
artwork…..the kimonos are really something I would like to see you
frame. I am enjoying this year very much and hope your child is
talking about art with you.
