1.         JOG-A-THON RECAP:  Parents and Students, St. A's 2nd Annual Jog-a-thon is next Monday, April 28.  Permission slips are due in to your teacher by Wednesday, April 23.  Students K-3 are to wear their class t-shirts and gym shorts for the entire day, with 4-8 changing back into uniform clothes.  Pledge sheets can be turned in for validation the day of the event (4/28).  We will record the number of laps completed and return to the student by the end of the day.  Call your aunts/uncles/neighbors for pledges!!!  The more we earn, the more fun the rewards and our assembly will be … Miss Cassidy's cookies at $15K; Wii Olympics at $18K; Mr. Corey/Chicken Dance at $20K; a week of out-of-uniform at $21K; plus ice cream parties, pizza party, McDonald's, extra playground time, and more, PLUS, if you beat your grade total for last year, watch Mr. Eckstein get a new hairdo for a day!  So get out there this week and secure your pledges!!  Goals to meet/beat:  K:  $2200; 1st grade:  $2200; 2nd grade:  $2100; 3rd grade: $3400; 4th grade:  $4300; 5th grade:  $2200; 6th grade:  $2700; 7th grade:  $1550.

 

2.         JOG-A-THON FUN FACT #4:  What percent of students turned in $25 or more to earn the ice cream treat?

 

3.         PARISH SPAGHETTI DINNER will be on Saturday, May 17, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., in the Undercroft.  Cost per family is $5.00, and each family is asked to bring a dessert or 2-liter of pop to share.  A reservation form will be in the Church Bulletin.  At the dinner, we will be offering best wishes to Deacon Forrest Wallace and family on their upcoming move to Ave Maria University in Naples, FL.  Volunteers are needed for setup, serving, and clean up.  Please contact Julie Scott at 922-3015 or juliescott2@hotmail.com.

 

4.         MUSIC NEWS.  This week’s “Shining Star” award goes to Nate L.  Nate is a third grader in Mrs. Herman’s homeroom.  Nate’s favorite song is Thunderstruck.  Nate’s favorite movie is “The Spiderwick Chronicles” and favorite TV show is Spongebob Squarepants.  Nate has played soccer since he was three.  Great job Nate!

 

5.         SCHOOL DECORATING THANKS.  We would like to thank the first grade students and teachers for their beautiful artwork that decorate our gym lobby for the spring show.  The lobby looks like a lovely spring meadow.  Their talent and hard work are very much appreciated!

 

6.         MARKET DAY.  Thank you to all of our April customers.  Just a reminder that pick up is this Tuesday, April 22, from 7-8 p.m. in the school lunchroom.  See you there!!!

 

7.         PIZZA CHAIRPERSON.  The position of Chairperson for Pizza Hot Lunch is needed for the 2008-2009 school year.  Anyone interested, please contact Sue Ulmer at 922-2159 for further details.

 

8.         SPIRIT ROOM NEWS.  Please watch the white envelope for “special order” Spiritwear items, including ladies tees and a men’s golf shirt.  Also, we will be pre-ordering gym uniforms this year starting the last week in April through the white envelope.  All students 4th through 8th grades will be required to wear their gym uniform to class beginning the week of Labor Day.  To insure your child has a gym uniform for the start of the school year, they must be pre-ordered.  Uniform sweatshirts are in stock!  Stop by the Spirit Room to see the beautiful hair ribbons in a variety of styles and colors for sale, thanks to the creative efforts of Mary Hirlinger.  Spring special!!!!  WATER BOTTLES – the perfect item for spring and summer sports and those hot days in the classroom, regular $6, on sale for $5, through May 15.  (I will have these for sale at the PTO Meeting on Wednesday, 4/16.  The Spirit Shop is always open one hour before the meeting too.)

 

9.         CAMPBELLS UPC CODES.  Please continue to clip the UPC codes only – front labels are no longer accepted by the program.  Also, with the purchase of Campbell’s products, Biggs has been giving out a coupon for additional labels.  Please forward those to me, with or without labels!  It‘s an easy way to increase our points so the teachers can “purchase” more items.  Interested sixth graders who want to start earning service hours are needed to clip UPC codes in preparation for the end of the school year mailing.  This is an easy activity that can be done while watching TV or with a group of friends.  Quick turnaround is necessary.  Please contact me for details and a packet to get started.  Lisa Egner, 347-7119, or eggs01@fuse.net.  Thanks!

 

10.        YOUTH CLUB UPCOMING EVENTS:

April 25:  "ENTER IN" - Evening of Renewal for 7th Grade Recently Confirmed: Invitations will be forthcoming for all 7th grade recently confirmed parishioners to attend an evening of renewal to kick-off membership in the St. Antoninus Youth Club.  Please save the date!!!
Sunday, May 18:  Third Annual Family Rosary Rally Music begins at 1:40 p.m. at THE PIT (Elder High School)!  Come pray the Rosary!

 

11.       BASKETBALL UNIFORM RETURN.  The times to return the St. Antoninus basketball uniforms are 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday April 29, and Wednesday, April 30.  Please bring the clean uniforms to the equipment room on one of these dates.

 

12.        TEE BALL.  Signups and practices rain or shine every Friday night 6-7 p.m. at Bosken Park on Crookshank. Boys and girls, ages 4, 5, and 6 welcome.   Contact Howard Hughes at 941-9538 or howard.hughes@worxmart.net.

14.       2008 JAGUAR CUP.  Word is out about this 3v3 Soccer Tournament and spots are filling up.  Do not hesitate to get your registration form in for this new and exciting Athletic Club fundraising event.  This event is open to any and all school aged children but spots are limited.  Registrations are due now but rosters aren't due until just before your first game.  Teams can have up to six players and will play in the age group based upon their oldest player's birth date.  The tournament starts at Schott Field on Friday, July 25, and culminates with eight Championship games on Sunday, the 27th.  Champions and finalists receive tournament trophies.  For more information check out the website.  Additional questions can be directed to our e-mail address at jaguar_cup@yahoo.com or you can call Todd Logan at 922-1782.

 

15.        ELDERS SCHOLARS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.  If you are going to be in 8th grade next year at the parish school, you are eligible to compete for an ESAP Scholarship.  ESAP, formerly EDSAP, is the Elder Scholars Assistance Program – a privately-funded grant program administrated by Elder High School.  One 7th grade girl and one 7th grade boy will be chosen from our school.  Applications are available on the Elder website: www.elderhs.org.  Once there, click “Parents” on the top banner and then on the Parents page, click “EDSAP” on the left side.  Scholarship applications are due May 1, 2008.  ESAP financial aid awards are available to families with students entering the 5th-8th grade at the parish school next year.  Applications available April 1 on Elder’s website.  See www.elderhs.org for more details or contact Maureen Regan at Elder at 921-3744 ext. 3423.

 

16.       ATTENTION EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS.  We would like to collect pictures from all your years at St A. for your graduation breakfast.  Please send any pictures you would like to share to school, marked with your name and phone # so we can return them to you.  And remember to take lots of pictures during this year so we can include them also.  We are looking for all kinds of events:  scouts, sports, school events, etc.  Send them in an envelope marked "8th grade pictures - Attention Diane Martini” through the school office or you can e-mail them to me at rmartini2@cinci.rr.com.  We will be collecting them all year.  Thank you in advance for helping.  Questions?  Contact Diane Martini at 922-0963.

 

17.       ELDER HIGH SCHOOL BAND COLOR GUARD is currently looking for anyone that is interested in joining the Color Guard for the 2008-2009 marching season.  This is open to students currently in grades eight through eleven.  There will be Informational Clinics on May 5 and May 7 from 7-8 p.m. in the Elder Band Room in the Schaeper Center.  You need to attend one clinic with a parent.  Join in the fun with the Elder Band at football games, parades, and competitions.  Everyone is welcome!  No experience is necessary.

 

18.       ELDER H.S. SUMMER COURSES & WORKSHOPS – 2008.  Elder High School is offering enrichment courses to students this summer for the opportunity to earn high school credit (first time credit).  In order to give more flexibility in scheduling classes in the freshman through senior years, the following courses will be offered:

Computer Software Use...entering grades 10, 11, or 12, June 16 – July 18, 7:45 – 10:20 A.M., $260.

Environmental Science...entering grade 12, June 9 – July 18, 7:45 A.M. – 1:05 P.M., $750

   * this is a dual-credit course through Thomas More College (1 H.S. credit and credit at many colleges)

Health...entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12, June 16 – July 18, 7:45 – 10:20 A.M., $260

Physical Education...entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12, June 16 – July 18, 10:30 A.M. – 1:05 P.M., $260

Registration will be from March 24 – May 9. There will be a $100 fee that is due at the time of registration (cash, certified check, or money order ONLY). This fee will be applied to the cost of the course. If the course is not offered due to lack of student interest, the $100 fee will be refunded.

Also, Elder is offering three workshops this summer for students of various age groups. The fee for each workshop is $40. Registration will be from March 24 - May 23. Those being offered are:

Chess 101…entering grades 7-12, June 9-13, 9:00 - 11:30 A.M.

Digital Photography & Film...entering grades 8-10, June 9-13, 9:00 - 11:30 A.M.

Study Skills...entering grades 9 & 10, July 14-8, 9:00 - 11:30 A.M.

19.       MCAULEY SUMMER CAMPS.  Each year McAuley High School offers a wide variety of summer enrichment camps for students in K-12 and sports camps for students in grades 3-8.  Camps are offered in the following areas:  babysitting/Red Cross, basic study strategies, Broadway review, clay camp, gym jamboree, Harry Potter, Irish dancing, horse camp, 8th grade test prep, reading, basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, and softball. 20.       YMCA CAMP ERNST COUPONS.  YMCA Camp Ernst is proud of over 75 years of summer camp excellence.  We promote positive character development in young people.  Coupons are available in the school office.  Please call or stop by the school office.

 

21.       SWIM LESSONS.  Mercy HealthPlex will be offering group swim lessons for ages 6 months – adult starting on April 12, 13 – May 17, 18.  Private and semi-private lessons are also available by appointment.  For registration, or additional information, please contact Annie @ 389-5465.
