1.         OLYMPIC DAY LUNCH.  Thanks to our PTO, everyone is receiving a free lunch on Olympic Day!!  Each lunch includes a hotdog, bag of chips, drink and dessert.  Information about purchasing an extra hotdog or drink will be sent through the newsletter and white envelope in the coming weeks.  Thank you PTO!

 

2.         OLYMPIC DAY VOLUNTEERS.  It's not too late to help!  Please turn in your form as soon as possible so we can make our assignments and begin organizing each event.  Contact Judy Olding (922-1820) and Janene Cappel (922-3713) with any questions.

 

3.         CRAYONS TO COMPUTERS.  I am in need of 20-25 adults to work 3 hour shifts at the Crayons to Computers store this summer to obtain shopping passes for our teachers.  There may also be hours available at the Staples stores selling kits for back-to-school promotions or even an assembly of the kits one day in July.  Anyone interested in helping should e-mail or call Karen Hartoin at hartoinm@aol.com or 451-6386.  Our teachers get to use their passes to shop at the C2C store and all items are free of charge.  There are many things they can use for the classroom.  Thanks!

 

4.         JOG-A-THON UPDATE.  Thanks for all the volunteers and students who participated in the 2nd Annual Jog-a-thon.  It was a great day, and the weather cooperated!!   Money due dates:  Monday May 5 (in order to earn out of uniform pass) and final turn in May 9.  Details to follow on the Ice Cream Party and Limo/McDonald's lunch.  We would also like to thank our corporate sponsors for helping to offset the costs of awards/treats:  Seven Hills Women's Health/Dr. Robert Stephens, Women Partners/Dr. Beth Venard, UDF, LaRosa’s, Airheads, Western Sports Mall, Inground Systems, Coca-Cola, Delhi McDonald's, Drs. 5.         SPIRIT ROOM NEWS.  Please remember the deadline for ordering the baseball sports pack is Tuesday, May 6.  Please forward cash or check made payable to "Underground Sports" to the Spirit Room by the end of school on Tuesday.  Orders should be ready within 2-3 weeks.  Watch for details regarding special discounted items and an end-of-the-year sale on Thursday, May 22, after Olympic Day activities conclude.

 

6.         CAMPBELLS LABELS FOR EDUCATION.  We're preparing to bank all the UPC codes collected throughout the year in our annual mailing to Campbells, due by June 1.  Numerous items count for 5 points this year, including Goldfish UPCs and V-8 Splash caps.  Many of you may have received special bonus coupons worth 500 points from Biggs and Kroger's when you purchased Campbells items.  A complete listing of all items included in this program can be found on the website, at www.labelsforeducation.com.  Please send all UPC codes, caps, and bonus coupons into the office as soon as possible before May 27, for inclusion in this mailing.  These UPC codes and caps generate points the faculty and staff can use to "purchase" items for the school as well as "hands-on" materials for our students.  A catalogue of the items offered is also available for viewing online.  Your assistance is appreciated.

 

7.          CUB SCOUT CAR SHOW.  St. Antoninus Cub Scout Pack 614 is hosting the 3rd Annual Car Show,  featuring everything from antiques to muscle cars, Saturday, May 17 (rain date:  5/24), School Parking Lot, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  Cars, food, split the pot and door prizes.  Free to spectators.  So come join us before or after your baseball games and check out the really cool cars.

 

8.         PARISH SPAGHETTI DINNER will be on Saturday, May 17, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., in the Undercroft.  Cost per family is $5.00, and each family is asked to bring a dessert or 2-liter of pop to share.  A reservation form is in the Church Bulletin.  At the dinner, we will be offering best wishes to Deacon Forrest Wallace and family on their upcoming move to Ave Maria University in Naples, FL.  Volunteers are needed for setup, serving, and clean up.  Please contact Julie Scott at 922-3015 or juliescott2@hotmail.com.

 

9.          YOUTH CLUB UPCOMING EVENTS:  Sunday, May 18:  Third Annual Family Rosary Rally Music begins at 1:40 p.m. at THE PIT (Elder High School)!  Come pray the Rosary!

 

10.        2008 JAGUAR CUP.  Word is out about this 3v3 Soccer Tournament and spots are filling up.  Do not hesitate to get your registration form in for this new and exciting Athletic Club fundraising event.  This event is open to any and all school aged children but spots are limited.  Registrations are due now but rosters aren't due until just before your first game.  Teams can have up to six players and will play in the age group based upon their oldest player's birth date.  The tournament starts at Schott Field on Friday, July 25, and culminates with eight Championship games on Sunday, the 27th.  Champions and finalists receive tournament trophies.  For more information check out the website.  Additional questions can be directed to our e-mail address at jaguar_cup@yahoo.com or you can call Todd Logan at 922-1782.

 

11.       ATTENTION EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AND PARENTS.  We would like to collect pictures from all your years at St A. for your graduation breakfast.  Please send any pictures you would like to share to school, marked with your name and phone # so we can return them to you.  And remember to take lots of pictures during this year so we can include them also.  We are looking for all kinds of events:  scouts, sports, school events, etc.  Send them in an envelope marked "8th grade pictures - Attention Diane Martini” through the school office or you can e-mail them to me at rmartini2@cinci.rr.com.  We will be collecting them all year.  Thank you in advance for helping.  Questions?  Contact Diane Martini at 922-0963.

 

12.        SETON HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM finished the season 15-0 undefeated for the second year in a row!  They have a 31-0 record for the past two seasons.  They won both the St. Dominic and St. Teresa tournaments the past two years, and were the GWAC League champs the past two years.  They also had a unique situation this year as they had three sets of sisters.  Team members include:  Alyssa A. – junior; Liz H. – freshman; Maria H. – junior; Erika L. – sophomore; Jessie L. – junior; Kayla M. – sophomore; Laney S. – freshman; Jennifer V. – sophomore; Cassie V. – junior; Stacy V. – freshman; Jenna W. – junior; Stephanie W. –freshman.

 

13.        ELDER HIGH SCHOOL BAND COLOR GUARD is currently looking for anyone that is interested in joining the Color Guard for the 2008-2009 marching season.  This is open to students currently in grades eight through eleven.  There will be Informational Clinics on May 5 and May 7 from 7-8 p.m. in the Elder Band Room in the Schaeper Center.  You need to attend one clinic with a parent.  Join in the fun with the Elder Band at football games, parades, and competitions.  Everyone is welcome!  No experience is necessary.

 

14.        ELDER H. S. SUMMER COURSES & WORKSHOPS – 2008.  Elder High School is offering enrichment courses to students this summer for the opportunity to earn high school credit (first time credit). In order to give more flexibility in scheduling classes in the freshman through senior years, the following courses will be offered:

Computer Software Use...entering grades 10, 11, or 12, June 16 – July 18, 7:45 – 10:20 A.M., $260.

Environmental Science...entering grade 12, June 9 – July 18, 7:45 A.M. – 1:05 P.M., $750

       * this is a dual-credit course through Thomas More College (1 H.S. credit and credit at many colleges)

Health...entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12, June 16 – July 18, 7:45 – 10:20 A.M., $260

Physical Education...entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12, June 16 – July 18, 10:30 A.M. – 1:05 P.M., $260

Registration will be from March 24 – May 9. There will be a $100 fee that is due at the time of registration (cash, certified check, or money order ONLY). This fee will be applied to the cost of the course. If the course is not offered due to lack of student interest, the $100 fee will be refunded.

Also, Elder is offering three workshops this summer for students of various age groups. The fee for each workshop is $40. Registration will be from March 24 - May 23. Those being offered are:

Chess 101…entering grades 7-12, June 9-13, 9:00 - 11:30 A.M.

Digital Photography & Film...entering grades 8-10, June 9-13, 9:00 - 11:30 A.M.

Study Skills...entering grades 9 & 10, July 7-11, 9:00 - 11:30 A.M.

15.       MCAULEY SUMMER CAMPS.  Each year McAuley High School offers a wide variety of summer enrichment camps for students in K-12 and sports camps for students in grades 3-8.  Camps are offered in the following areas:  babysitting/Red Cross, basic study strategies, Broadway review, clay camp, gym jamboree, Harry Potter, Irish dancing, horse camp, 8th grade test prep, reading, basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, and softball. 16.       MT. ST. JOE BASKETBALL DAY CAMP.  The 10th Annual College of Mount St. Joseph Basketball Day Camp for girls and boys will be held June 23-26, 2008, for ages 7-14.  Camp runs from 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m., Monday-Thursday.  Location is the Harrington Center on the campus of the College of Mount St. Joseph.  Cost is $130 if registered by June 1; after June 1 cost is $150.  For registration and further information, please contact Larry Cox @ 513-244-4929, website: www.msj.edu/athletics, e-mail: larry_cox@mail.msj.edu.

 

17.       YMCA CAMP ERNST COUPONS.  YMCA Camp Ernst is proud of over 75 years of summer camp excellence.  We promote positive character development in young people.  Coupons are available in the school office.  Please call or stop by the school office.

 

18.       SWIM LESSONS.  Mercy HealthPlex will be offering group swim lessons for ages 6 months – adult starting on April 12, 13 – May 17, 18.  Private and semi-private lessons are also available by appointment.  For registration, or additional information, please contact Annie @ 389-5465.
