1.         SAFE DRIVERS NEEDED!  For those of you in the majority who are driving safely through our parking lots at pick up and drop off times, thank you.  For the few who are driving at excessive speeds, please think about how your family is going to get along without you if you are in jail for killing another child just because you were in a hurry.  Please slow down.

2.         FIRST QUARTER INTERIM REPORTS went home Friday, 9/28, with all second through eighth grade students.  If you did not receive, please check with your student.  If there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

3.         TERRA NOVA TEST BEGINS this week for grades 2, 4, 6, and 8.  Please help your child do the best they can by making sure they have a good breakfast and come to school well rested.  Thank you.

4.         SPIRITWEAR NEWS. Please accept my apologizes for confusing everyone when I stated in the last newsletter "effective the week of September 29, 2007, all fourth through eighth graders should wear the gym t-shirt to gym class."  The date should have been effective the week of October 1st.  Again, I apologize.  Please encourage your children to enter the "Spiritwear T-shirt Contest." We appreciate everyone's suggestions and ideas to make our Spiritwear Shop better – keep them coming!  The results of the survey will be submitted for publication in the newsletter for next week.  We are going to continue to experiment with different hours of operation to determine how to best meet the needs of all our families.  While we're accustomed to having the Spiritwear Room open every Friday after school, often we only have two or three customers.  The Spiritwear Room will be open on Friday, October 5th after Mass, while grandparents tour our school, and again on Monday, October 15th between 7:15 and 8:00 a.m.  Our October special discounted item will be non-uniform sweatshirts!  We will be selling gift certificates for Spiritwear items in the near future.  Gym shorts are on the way – they are being embroidered and hopefully will be shipped next week.  Watch for further details and announcements.

5.         BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION FALL/WINTER CONTEST !!  The summer contest was a hit, so we are now doing a Fall/Winter contest.  We will announce the winners next week of the summer contest.  The Fall/Winter contest will run from 10/1/07 thru 1/31/08.  Just tape or paste collected Box Tops only (NOT Campbells or Tyson) on the fall/winter contest form enclosed in this white envelope and then turn in your completed sheets by 1/31/08 to the school office.  Each completed sheet is worth $2 for St. A PTO.  The family turning in the most money will receive a $30 Kroger Gift Card.  There will also be a random drawing to win a Box Tops basket of groceries worth $25.  Get your kids involved!!  The more sheets turned in, the more opportunity to win the basket and the most collected.  If you need more sheets, please copy the enclosed form, go to the St. A website, or e-mail a request to staboxtops@yahoo.com or call Cathy Neville.  PLEASE SEE BACK OF FORM FOR A LIST OF PARTICIPATING PRODUCTS!!  Thanks for all your help with this easy PTO fundraiser.

6.         The PTO VICE-PRESIDENT POSITION IS STILL OPENPlease consider this position.  The PTO Board member responsibilities can be found on the St. A website.  Your PTO provides many important programs, services and fundraisers for our school and parish.  Having the Board positions filled helps to ensure that these will continue for the benefit of our children.  Volunteering for the Vice President position is a wonderful opportunity to become more involved with your PTO!  Contact Joan Berning (451-2427) sjberning@fuse.net or Maria Allen (922-2493) allenm@fuse.net ASAP to volunteer

7.         THANK YOU.  To the parents and faculty who were able to attend the PTO meeting on September 26.  Since this was the first meeting of the school year, the PTO had many agenda items and chairperson updates.  Your ideas and participation were appreciated!!

8.         CAMPBELLS LABELS FOR EDUCATION AND TYSON PROJECT A+.  Please continue to clip UPC codes from all Campbell's products and the red strip from Tyson frozen foods and lunchmeats.  The Campbells UPC codes are redeemed for school supplies, equipment, and other items for our school.  Last year we submitted more than 6,000 UPC codes and hopefully this year we'll do even better. Each Tyson product strip is worth 24¢, all of which goes toward educating our children.  We earned approximately $140 from a few people clipping strips and turning them into school. Let's try to expand participation and earn even more money.  Keep up the good work and thank you for your support of these two PTO programs!

9.         CRAYONS TO COMPUTERS THANK YOU.  Thank you to all the following volunteers for working at the Crayons to Computers store or the Colerain Staples store this past summer.  All teachers who asked for one were awarded a certificate to shop for free school and classroom supplies at the store in Bond Hill.  If you are willing to work a three-hour shift next summer, please call or e-mail Karen Hartoin at 451-6386, hartoinm@aol.com.  A round of applause for:  Lisa Reiter, Janene Cappel, Michelle Moore, Leslie Keller, Nancy Fishburn, Mary Hirlinger, Lori Rolfes, Karen Hartoin, Mary Antone, Gretchen Wrolstad, Ellen Smith, Julie Ashe, Terri Heinzelman, Jenny Allison, Janet Weber, Mary Beth and Patrick Nolan, Jane Hamberg, Kristi Bengel, Sharon Rolfes, Lisa Wagner, Angela Jaeger and Mary Meyer.
