Congratulations to the

St. Antoninus "It's Academic" Team!

The St. Antoninus seventh and eighth grade teams achieved success in the annual It’s Academic competition at LaSalle High School.  This is the first St. Antoninus "It's Academic" team in 12 years.  At the end of the evening, the St. A. eighth grade team was tied for first place, but a few tie-breaking questions put them in second place.  Unbelievable, they beat out twelve Catholic grade schools!  The team included Ben A., Jonathan K., Rebecca K. and Katherine R.  The seventh grade team played on March 5 with just as much excitement.  In their second round they scored a record-breaking 480 points.  At the end of the evening, the team came in third.  The St. A. seventh grade team scored over thirteen other academic teams.  The seventh grade team included Jack B., Derrick B., Benjamin E., and Daniel F.  Thank you to Mr. Besse for all his time and effort in coaching the teams.

On Wednesday, January 7th, Saint Antoninus held their school level Spelling Bee for the 2009 Scripps Nationals Spelling Bee, sponsored locally by WCPO. Grades 6, 7, and 8 held grade level contests and the top 9 students from each grade competed for the title of School Spelling Champion. Words chosen from Old English, Latin and Greek narrowed the field, after 7 rounds, to our runner up, Tina S., and our school champ, Christy R. The winning word was ‘exacerbate’. Congratulations to all participants and good luck Christy on February 14th in the city competition.

You are needed for the Sunday 9:30AM babysitting program.

Two or three students are needed every week to help the adult volunteers.

This is a very popular program for parents with small children.  Toddlers enjoy playing with older kids.  And you will find that this is "not just a job, but an adventure."

To sign up, call Beth at 922-5400, or email your name, address and phone number to saintantoninus@fuse.net.
