FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

Today, January 4, as well as being the transferred Solemnity of the Epiphany (January 6) is also the feast of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first native-born American to be canonized.  Hers is a fascinating story of motherhood, widowhood, conversion and foundation of the Sisters of Charity.  Because of printing deadlines, I cannot say more. But I do want to take this occasion to salute her sisters on their bicentennial!  Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for your Sisters of Charity!

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

Father Larry Mick Burse:

A Living Legacy for 60-year Jubilee

A burse is a permanently restricted endowment, with the interest used to help offset the cost of training local seminarians for the priesthood including tuition, room and board – about $30,000 a year. The goal of a burse is to fully endow one seminarian’s formation.

    A burse currently:

    * To be established requires a minimum pledged donation of $25,000.

    * Provides naming opportunity rights – benefactor or honoree, or as a memorial.

    * Is regulated by the board of trustees with interest presently allocated annually at six percent.

Burses may receive additional capital over one’s lifetime, and even beyond, through inclusion in one’s will.  Please make check out to St. Antoninus Parish and mark the memo line “Fr. Mick Burse.”  The actual date of Fr. Mick’s 60th anniversary is March 12, 2009.  We will celebrate it as a parish on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the 11:30AM Mass.

VALENTINE ROUND-UP GALA will be on Saturday, February 14th, in the undercroft.  If you wish to donate an item or service, call Sue Ulmer at 922-2159 for information.   Gift gathering will be on Saturday and Sunday, January 10 and 11.

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards and the 2008 Entertainment and Zone Books are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM.

“E-GIVING” AVAILABLE

Use your current bank’s “online banking” by adding St. Antoninus Church as a “Payee”. List our ad-dress as 1500 Linneman Road, give your envelope number as an account number. Or you may use the Archdiocese e-giving which is run thru an outside company, Pledge Connect. Go to the E-Giving link on the parish web site, www.saintantoninus.org, click on “Church” on left side, click on the e-giving link, and follow the directions. A 4% fee will be deducted from all donations for the use of this site. (The parish receives $96 from a $100 donation). The fees cover the costs of administering and security of the site. What to do with your monthly envelopes? You may still put an envelope in the weekly collection basket and mark it “e-giving”, or you can request to be removed from the collection envelope list by calling the Business office between 8:30AM to 1PM.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF SOUTH WEST OHIO is looking for people for home care workers (paid positions) to assist the elderly with daily living needs including household chores and transportation.  Call Rod Huber, Director of Family Services at 241-7745 x 2530.

FROM DEACON DAVID ENDRES

Next weekend we will celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord.  At this time we are asking you to think and pray about whether there is someone you know here at St. Antoninus who might make a good priest or religious sister or brother.  It is no secret that most vocations begin with a personal invitation.  Through this “Called by Name” initiative, you will have the opportunity to invite someone to consider the religious life by writing his or her name on one of the cards available in the pews that weekend.  Father Armstrong will follow up with a letter to those who have been named.  If we are to have priests and religious to serve the Church in the future they must come from among us, not from other parishes and other families.

VOCATION NIGHT for college age men and older at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary on Wednesday, January 14, from 5:15 to 8PM. COLLEGE DAY for high school men will be on Monday, February 16, at the Josephinum.
