FROM OUR PASTOR

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Lord.  This coming Friday, June 19, the Year of the Priest, proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI, begins.  June 19, is also the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Year of St. Paul comes to close on June 29.  I mention all of those dates not so much so that we can fill in our spiritual calendars but to ponder a possible connection between all four of them.  St. Paul gives us the earliest written account of the Lord's Supper in I Corinthians 11.  Among other things, when Jesus revealed His Heart to St. Margaret Mary, he especially wanted communions of reparation to be made to overcome luke-warmness in the practice of the Faith.  And, although I have yet to read the reasons the Pope has given to proclaim the Year of the Priest, I suspect that at least one of them is to remind us priests to make the Mass the very center of our lives.  Thence, we come to today's solemnity.  All other solemnities of Our Lord commemorate an event that took place in the past.  But today's feast of the Body and Blood of the Lord celebrates the present, indeed, the Real Presence of Christ, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, under the appearance of bread and wine in the sacrament of the Eucharist.   O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All Praise and Glory be forever Thine!

-- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

Dear Fr. Armstrong,

I wish to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to you, the pastor, and parishioners of St. Antoninus Parish for the warm reception you gave me and for your good response to my mission appeal last weekend for the Diocese of Jasikan in Ghana.

Your church is good and unique, your music and the evening and morning prayers before Mass. We do the same back at home. Keep it up.  Thank you and God bless you all for your concern for the poor and needy.

--Rev. Fr. Vincent Antie

The focus of today’s feast is the total self-giving of Jesus. The bishops’ stewardship pastoral reminds us that “the glory and the boast of Christian stewards lie in mirroring, however poorly, the stewardship of Jesus Christ, who gave and still gives all He has and is, in order to be faithful to God’s will and carry through to completion His redemptive stewardship of human beings and their world.”

In line with today's feast, it is appropriate to ask ourselves "How can I best give of myself to be faithful to God's will?"

Biggs and Kroger Gift Cards are on sale in the church elevator hallway after all weekend Masses, and at the rectory, M-F from 8AM to 3 PM. We earn 4% of every dollar from Krogers and 6% of every dollar from Bigg’s.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

Since Easter we have had many excellent teachings on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Now is the time to step back and rejoice in our new-found knowledge by exulting in prayer. Reading the Scriptures should be an integral part of our daily prayer time. It is important to ask ourselves in our reading, “What is the Lord trying to tell me in this passage?” Ben Klaene and Carol Jacob have each selected certain passages to develop into a reflection they’ll share with us. Come and share your thoughts on these reflections. In Chapel, 7:30 PM Tuesday.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

Summer has started for our students.  On the last week of school I had to fulfill a debt owed to the students from our fundraising efforts.  Unbeknownst to me, Mrs. Fran Feldman arranged for the Green Township Fire Department to bring the ladder truck.  Instead of climbing a ladder up thru the roof door, I was given access to the gym roof by climbing up the fire department ladder.  Our thanks go to Mrs. Feldman, Mrs. Bohan, and Mrs. Reynolds for their time helping us raise enough money to put me on the roof.   It definitely was a pleasant way for the students to end the year.

At the close of this school year, we not only said good bye to our eighth graders, but we also said good bye to three faculty members.  This year Mrs. Suhlman our librarian, Mrs. Milano our music teacher, and Mr. Eckstein our Physical Education teacher are leaving St. Antoninus School.  Please keep them in your prayers as they begin a new chapter in each of their lives.

DEAR PARENTS AND STUDENTS OF ST. A.,

I want to thank you for the many cards, letters and well wishes I have received these last few weeks.  I am overwhelmed by your love and support; it means so much to me.        --Thank you, Elizabeth Milano
