FROM OUR PASTOR

First, I want to wish all of our Fathers a Happy Father's Day and to remind them just how important they are in the lives of their children.   Recently, I baptized a grand niece and nephew. At the end of the liturgy, one of the grandfathers collapsed with what we thought was a heart attack.  Thankfully, it was not. But as we waited for the EMT his daughter asked: "Did you tell them it was my Dad?"  I was struck by the question.  The EMT would respond no matter who it was, and yet this daughter was so concerned with her father she thought everyone would be equally concerned.  It reminded me of just how much influence fathers have on their children.  The baptismal liturgy for infants underscores a father's importance in the life of his children in the blessing prayer:  "God is the giver of all life, human and divine.  May he bless the father of this child.  He and his wife will be the first teachers of their child in the ways of faith. May they also be the best of teachers, bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

                              -- Rev. Christopher R. Armstrong

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Applicants are being sought for the 2009-2010 AmeriCorps positions.  Volunteers help provide spiritual, emotional and financial assistance on a person-to-person basis to the poor, lonely and forgotten in our community.  The service year runs from September 1, 2009, to August 1, 2010. Benefits include a living allowance, health insurance and child care.  For info call Kevin Lab at 562-8841, x 233.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL, MR. JACK COREY

Dear Parishioners,

This coming school year we will continue to grow in service to others.  This past school year our faculty not only taught in the classroom about service but also modeled it as well.  Twice our faculty went to the Ronald McDonald house to serve breakfast to families with sick children.  Many of these children have life threatening illnesses or injuries.

Also this coming school year, the theme for Catholic Schools’ Week is: Catholic Schools-Dividends for Life.  After many have seen a big decrease in financial dividends, this is a timely theme.  This year’s theme reminds us all that the sacrifices our parishioners and families make to pass on our faith is worth it.  Truly the “dividends” of a Catholic Education are infinite.

Just a reminder to incoming eighth graders wishing to be on Student Council, your letter is due before the school office closes on June 30th.

THE 8TH GRADE OF ST. ANTONINUS PARISH SCHOOL Car Wash will be on Saturday, June 27, from 10AM to 2PM at Hudepohl Jeweler parking lot on Anderson Ferry Road. The car wash is a fundraiser for their trip to Washington, D.C. in 2010.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

From time to time we’ve heard differences of interpretation from our Protestant brothers and sisters concerning what the Bible teaches. How do we know that our interpretations are the correct ones? On Tuesday, Joe Brinck speaking about the “The Bible and the Catholic Church” will elaborate on the great gift of the Magisterium and the Holy Spirit in protecting and guiding the Church to the truth through the centuries. Many of the Church councils played a prominent part in defining and interpreting God’s Word. The Bible as we know it today came out of the early Catholic Church and continued through the centuries always under the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit, who will lead us to all truth.  In Chapel, 7:30PM.

WORD OF LIFE

In our own trials, and standing alongside others in their struggles, we glimpse the essence of our humanity, we become, as it were, more human.
