The words of the psalmist echo the theme of all of today’s readings. “Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.” As good stewards, firmly grounded in that hope, may we bear fruit in due season — assisting the poor, feeding the hungry, and consoling the sorrowful whenever we have the chance.   See Psalm 1

FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners,

This being St. Valentine's Day, you might say this is a love letter to all of you.  I have been reflecting a great deal on the revelation of God's love in my life these past few weeks.  Let me give you some examples.  On February 1, we had our parents and candidates for confirmation night.  I was deeply impressed by the enthusiasm of all involved.  One of the PREP teachers mentioned that insights he had shared with his students about the gift of the Fear of the Lord.  On February 3, we blessed throats for St. Blaise Day and the whole school came.  All were reverent but I was especially touched by our kindergarteners and their deep devotion.  On February 5, we opened our Forty Hours after the all parish school Mass in the morning.  I couldn't help but notice the awe expressed in the faces of the students, especially our first graders.  Even during the snow storm, 78 people came to adore the Lord, some for several hours during the night for our parish's Forty Hours.  We closed Forty Hours with the participation of the Boy Scouts and I marveled at their reverence as well.  Those are just a few examples of the way God has and continues to reveal his love to me through all of you.  Happy St. Valentine's Day!

Fr. Christopher R. Armstrong

MEASURING ENGAGEMENT ME 06: "My faith has called me to develop my given strengths."  Of the 606 out 625 respondents who answered this question 38% strongly agreed, 36 % agreed, 22% neither agreed nor disagreed, 3% disagreed, and 1% strongly disagreed.  Of the 14,909 Catholics who responded, the average was 4.03/5 (5=strongly agree); of the 38,367 respondents of all denominations, the average was 4.03/5.  According to Growing an Engaged Church, what sets the spiritually committed apart is their understanding that they are created by God with unique talents and gifts and have the responsibility to make the most of them.  They are humble about them because they know they are on loan from God.  They are accountable for their use.  "Your life is a gift from God.  What you make of your life is your gift to God."

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL – JACK COREY

Happy Valentine’s Day! Last Sunday our new student registration was very successful. Thank you to all the people who helped with the pamphlets and letters that went out. We are anticipating a waiting list for kindergarten this fall. If you know of anyone thinking about St. Antoninus kindergarten please tell them to sign up quickly. Catholic Schools Week events are past but there are two that stick out in my memory for different reasons. The first was the presentation of Drs. Lawrence and Jan Tepe DDS. They are a husband and wife team who go to Honduras and take part in the Shoulder to Shoulder program. They provide dental services in places that have no other access to dental care. Our students were riveted by many of the pictures brought back from Honduras. Our Lenten project this year will be to help raise money for the Shoulder to Shoulder program. The second event that sticks out is the student-faculty volleyball game. For the first time in the four years we have played this game, the faculty was soundly defeated not once, but twice, by the eighth grade girls’ team. The boys had a rough afternoon losing to the girls and to their teachers. Fittingly, the students wrapped up Catholic Schools Week by saying the Rosary during Eucharistic Adoration on Friday afternoon.

Please take the Traveling Chalice into your home for one week as a reminder to pray for vocations to the priesthood and to the religious life. If you would like the Traveling Chalice for one week, please call Debbie at 922-2414. Thank you to Joan Vonderhaar who took the Traveling Chalice into her home for one week.

FROM OUR SEMINARIAN

All who believe that Lent begins this coming Wednesday, February 17, need to meet my good friends. They argue that Lent begins every February 14th…that’s right, St. Valentine’s Day. His Lenten sacrifice is planning the perfect gift and dinner while she claims the penance of disappointment. Of course, they both laugh off the running joke as they usually spend the night just hanging out with their four kids. Once I offered to baby sit so they could have a romantic evening alone, but they refused. He simply said, “What’s not romantic about eating pizza and changing dirty diapers?” Setting jokes and the sarcasm aside, they are a loving married couple who understand that St Valentine’s Day is not a one day affair, but a lifetime commitment. Love isn’t found in flowers, chocolates, or dinners, but in stale breadsticks and two year old temper tantrums. So I wish you a happy St. Valentine’s Day, one filled with cold pizza, stale breadstick, two year old temper tantrums, dirty diapers, and all the love a family can offer! Happy Valentine’s Day!

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

Contributed items are destined for the Holy Family Food Pantry.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER GROUP

It was a gratifying turnout for Father Armstrong’s series, “Sharing Christ’s Priesthood – A Bible Study for Catholics.” Many were expecting this to be a lecture and note-taking session, which it was not. On the contrary, it was interactive participation with a large group of attendees. Many of us were surprised at how much we did not know. It was interesting and fascinating. Father kept it moving forward and we finished at 9PM, as promised.

On Tuesday, he will conduct the second in the series. If you didn’t make the first, consider coming now. You won’t regret it and you’re bound to learn much. Call Mary Handermann to register 922-4738. This series will run through Lent on Tuesdays. In Chapel, 7:30 PM. Remember to bring your Bible.

ADULT SOCIAL GROUP
Note: Don’t forget to pay your dues $5.00 pp.

April 21st: Trip to Keenland cost is $60 pp.  Includes transportation and buffet lunch in Phoenix Room at the track.
