Dear Fellow Parishioners,

I am painfully reminded at times of our need to examine the myths, lies, half-truths and okay, propaganda that surround all of us.   Here’s just two.

  • I met a worried seventh grade boy and his ‘girlfriend’ (thankfully, her test was negative). He tearfully assured me he had listened to his health teacher:  “Honestly, Mrs. Hoffman, I wouldn’t do anything until my girl friend said she was ready!”  Two more casualties in the classroom of so-called Comprehensive Sex Ed (“instruction”).  The actual teacher’s manual denigrates abstinence as “learning to live like a hermit (define if necessary)”.  Showering together is fun.  Also try hiding condoms on one another. Composing lists of every imaginable filthy word is part of a class project as is getting bike directions to their nearest family planning (PP) site.  Most parents are not to be trusted.

Propaganda:  Comprehensive Sex Ed makes sense since kids don’t need the Dark Ages of chastity education which doesn’t teach them what matters in today’s world.  It’s okay if you consider yourself as pro-life even though you support this Comprehensive Sex; it doesn’t really damage children and their families.

Truth check:  Comprehensive Sex Ed corrupts a minor; it is never pro life.  Among other vital aspects, your PCE chastity education actually does discuss contraception, premarital sex and STDs…it just respectfully tells the truth about them.  Students are empowered as they learn about the beauty of the gift of their sexuality and the joy of living a moral aka healthy life.  Parents are supported in their God-given role as primary educators.

  • In a local university text book it clearly said that pro abortion individuals were the educated, broad-minded, true feminists.  “Anti-choice” people are for the most part uneducated radicals who want women “barefoot and pregnant”.

Propaganda:  if you support abortion “rights” you are a true feminist, intellectually and socially superior.  You are correct in your advocacy of “choice” and anti-male agenda.

Truth Check:  Founding mothers of feminism, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, were pro life:  neither children nor women should be treated as property.  Radicals Margaret Sanger (PP) and Betty Friedan’s group later successfully usurped feminism by mandating abortion, by viewing most men as enemies and by seeking to end marriage. Thankfully, the Church teaches children are a precious God-given gift; celebrates the dignity of women and men with their similarities and differences; upholds marriage as a reflection of Christ’s love for His Church. Some of the fundamentals to being fully pro life. Theology of the Body, Feminists for Life; Domestic Tranquility (Carolyn Graglia).

God is good!
