Dear Fellow Parishioners,

As Catholic Americans, we are being called to become more engaged in combating these evil attacks against God’s sacred gift of human life, especially in abortion (legal throughout all nine months), the heinous root evil www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR1RD2-fabA www.DuraRealidad.com  :“Its scrupulous meanness has had catastrophic effects upon the unity and integrity of the American republic…For the next few years, Gethsemane will not be marginal. We will know that Garden,” (James Frances Cardinal Stafford, Nov. 2008). Cardinal Stafford compared America’s future under out-spoken abortion supporter, President Obama, to Jesus’ agony in the garden, “On November 4, 2008, America suffered a cultural earthquake…the hot, angry tears of betrayal…we now become one with Jesus, sick because of love.”  Jesus tells us, “I came that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

As one of the FREEDOM OF CHOICE ACT (FOCA) co-sponsors, then Senator Barack Obama promised the abortion lobby that this will be the first piece of legislation he will sign into law as President. Under this deceptive title, FOCA would create a new federal right to abortion and would repeal the Hyde Amendment thus allowing unlimited federal tax funding for abortions.

FOCA removes all the legal safeguards (“interferences”) currently put in place in all 50 states since 1973…safeguards that have helped reduce abortions to record lows.  It would invalidate all laws requiring: “full disclosure to the patient” (ultrasound images of the unborn child, details about pain inflicted on the baby, about long term complications for the mother); parental notification for a minor daughter seeking an abortion; waiting periods; restrictions based on an unborn child’s viability; protection for doctors and nurses who refuse to perform or assist in an abortion; protections for religiously affiliated hospitals as well as public hospitals that currently do not perform abortions (the head of obstetrics at a large local Catholic hospital told me that they would be forced to close under FOCA);  exclusions for abortion coverage from health care plans of federal employees.  FOCA would overturn the federal law banning the late term infanticide: partial-birth abortions.

Contact/meet with your U.S. Senators and Representatives:  urge them not only to oppose FOCA but also to take leadership in their opposition.  www.House.gov/writerep www.Senate.gov/contacting/index.cfm Pray.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

A 7th grader speaks up, wins and wows the judges:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOR1wUqqvJS4&feature=channel-page  Using her as a young role model, we see she’s an articulate witness to the urgency of re-establishing our God-given right to life.

Another role model, Lila Rose is a college student at UCLA.  She’s also a pro-life student activist who founded and is president of Live Action which spreads a pro life message to young people and conducts student-led investigations the results of which are released through www.Live Action Films.org           Recent investigations received national attention when they exposed racism and patterns of sexual abuse cover-up at Planned Parenthood abortion facilities.  This college student has been a frequent guest on radio and television programs, including The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity’s America and The Laura Ingraham Show.  This work has led to criminal investigations of the abortion industry.  FYI she’ll be the keynote speaker April 23 at Pregnancy Center East’s Banquet for Life.

Role models.  With Lent beginning, a retreat priest asks us to consider:  “What does it mean to be a disciple, a follower, of Jesus Christ?”  Being committed to Christ brings joys and challenges for each of us so we ask ourselves, “Do I believe and trust Jesus words, His Church enough to live by them?”

Using Our Blessed Mother as the “Number One Role Model Disciple”, we are called to be faithful, fearless, proclaiming, joyful and forgiving. For family discussion, consider ways that different members/ages can be a follower of Jesus and a role model to others.  What specific steps can your family implement to bring about the Gospel of Life and shed light onto the culture of death that is promoting abortion, infanticide, euthanasia (recently legalized in two states and federally repackaged in ‘rationed healthcare’). Truth is on the march and it will not be stopped.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

“It was the best times, it was the worst of times” (C. Dickens).  Using today’s gift of astonishing technology, we just saw the vivid 4D video of our soon-to-be-born grandchild.  The best of times!

However, my expectant daughter, her husband and my husband are graduates of Notre Dame. Like so many, we are outraged, deeply saddened by the University’s decision to confer an honorary law degree on abortion advocate President Obama as their UND ’09 Commencement speaker.  A direct violation of the U.S. Bishops’ 2004 mandate in Catholics in Political Life:  ‘The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles.  They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.’ ” www.CardinalNewmanSociety.org  Scandalous defiance.  The mockery of what was Our Lady’s premier university honoring someone who supports mutilating children (all 9 mos./all 50 states)! The worst of times!

Nearly 60 bishops, archbishops and cardinals including Archbishop Pilarczyk have publicly led the outcry.  Now engaged are Catholics never before engaged in this life/death battle. The best of times!

Archbishop Burke, Prefect of the Vatican’s highest court, the Apostolic Signatura, called on Catholics to “give an uncompromising witness” to the dignity of life and sharply criticized Notre Dame.  “Godless secularism and relativism” underlie the Culture of Death. He noted ND is   “rightly the source of the greatest scandal…in a culture marked by widespread, ingrained confusion about the most fundamental teachings of the moral law, our Catholic schools and universities must be beacons of truth and right conduct…if we as individuals are not willing to accept the burdens” of the Catholic witness to life, “we are not worthy of the name Catholic…a Catholic institution, a Catholic university, cannot give honors to someone who is a promoter of things that are opposed to the most fundamental beliefs of Catholics.  There’s an apostolic constitution, Ex corde Ecclesiae, which sets forth the requirements for a university to have the name Catholic. I think that Notre Dame has to either follow those norms or say ‘We’re not a Catholic university anymore.”

ND’s honor comes on the heels of the most anti-life actions of any American president: his expansion of tax funding for abortions around the world ($585 million); allowing our taxes for unlimited killing of human embryos for embryonic stem cells; using taxes ($50 million) to now fund China’s forced one-child policy with its forced abortions and sterilizations through UNFPA; proposing  rescinding a federal policy of conscience protections for Catholic doctors, nurses and hospitals; and the grand daddy of them all, advocates for the Freedom of Choice Act to rescind the last 37 years of pro life protection for moms, dads and their children.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

A seventh grade student, concerned that he may be a father, told me, “Honestly I wouldn’t do anything until she said she was ready.”  This sad phrase is directly from the marketing propaganda paid for and coined by Planned Parenthood (PP) for the classrooms of America.  “Most teen abortions start when Planned Parenthood walks into a classroom.”(American Life League www.ALL.org)

Advocates of the abortion industry, these sellers of sexual promiscuity met last month at Miami University (Oxford OH) under the guise of promoting tax-funded “sex-ed” in the classroom.  PP knows that most children, just like that young boy, think that if it’s taught in school it must be true.  So PP promotes a stomach-turning “sex-ed” called It’s Perfectly Normal and its predecessor Reducing the Risk (where immoral acts are their recommended forms of ‘abstinence’).  Marriage, the love of wife and husband and God’s beautiful gift of sexuality are missing. Using pornography and graphic language PP’s programs teach children as young as PreK that anything sexual is perfectly normal – even PP’s $pecialty, abortion (over $114,000,000/yr in profits).  Thus, countless teens and pre-teens are then losing their sexual innocence in the classroom and many will later follow with a visit to Planned Parenthood’s abortion facility to loose their preborn babies and to live wounded lives. As the largest abortion chain, PP kills over 250,000 preborn children a year.

Always with prayer, join the full-scale national effort to close down PP using 3 key objectives:  1. Eliminate all tax-funding…free tax $ is 33% of PP budget.  Stop the free $$ and PP will collapse.  2. Volunteer through national grassroots crusade (www.ALL.org) to end PP’s ruthless humanist assault on the hearts, minds and souls of our children 3.  Expand on-site volunteer programs to pray, witness and  pressure local businesses, churches, politicians and media “To Save Our Children and Keep Planned Parenthood Away” from them and out of our communities…learn more/get our yard sign www.ProtectCincinnati.org 513-588-0148. With courage, prayer for right judgment, let’s do the right thing! Our children are depending on us.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

In all my years serving in pro life I have never witnessed such a sweeping attempt to undermine the sanctity of human life and to alter the landscape of our beautiful nation from a land of the free…to a land of the controlled.  Under the guise of Health ‘Care’ massive changes in the very structure of our democracy are at foot.  Every voter in this nation needs to let their voice be heard…now…this month as the House and the Senate recess until Sept.

The “Health” bill should be scrapped altogether:  Riveted with moral, physical and ethical threats to the unborn, the elderly, the infirm; imposing the “are you wanted” mentality on the less-than-perfect among us; attacks on the rights of conscience for our Catholic hospitals and medical personnel (Cardinal George) … all these loom larger each passing day.

You and I want to DO something to stop this Health Horrific Bill.  Please call your representative’s and U.S. Senators’ district offices and ask when and where they will be holding town hall meetings.  Express your opposition to any form of this bill.  Attend the meetings.  Write to our local papers.   It’s our country and the future of our children and grandchildren…and ourselves as we grow into our golden years.  Resources:

“We are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between the culture of death and the culture of life.  We find ourselves in the midst of this conflict.  We are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be unconditionally pro life”   Pope JP II “The Gospel of Life”.

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

Of course we have a deeply shared concern to serve the poor and those in need.  However, there is a Trojan horse under the guise of Health 'Care' bringing massive changes in the very structure of our democracy.  Every voter in this nation needs to let their voices be heard...now and in the weeks ahead.

Since supporters of the abortion industry are prevalent throughout the current administration and in Congress, we must be vigilant in watching for any efforts to encourage the abortion industry’s mentality that has long underpinned abortion and the culture of death:  “are you wanted/are you ‘as valuable’”.  Human life must be protected from conception through natural death.  www.usccb.org

History (Google pro life Hyde Amendment) has shown that America may see a Health "Shell Bill" pass with many of our red life-flags seemingly removed to placate the dissenters i.e. Pro life/pro family constituents.  Once this gutted "Shell Bill" passes into law...then...the regulations appear and all the offensive concerns are able to be but back:  abortions, ‘reimbursing’ e.g. Oregon's insurance companies and individuals for euthanasia and assisted suicide, the abortion industry’s dream of school-based health clinics (eight pages currently), embryonic stem cell research, human cloning etc...cleverly using semantics of premiums not tax money. The 'shell game' in full force.

To try and prevent this tragedy from occurring, American voters can insist that legislators also specifically state in the original bill what may not be included otherwise it will be assumed to be included...and the follow-up regulations later will implement it.  Honest or naive people may not think like this but voters know that honest people have been hoodwinked for years by those who do think like this.

Continue to pray.  Americans now have a user-friendly way to make a big impact: consider “helping make it happen” asap! The Yellow Health Postcard Campaign utilize www.HealthPostcard.com  Let us not live with shoulda/woulda/coulda.

Health reform?  Yes.  At the expense of the vulnerable and the future of our children?  No.

December 6, 2009

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

“Give the Gift of LIFE” this Advent for Christmas!  Our country’s present and future generations…our fellow members of the Body of Christ…need us today to stand in the breach for LIFE.  Bold efforts to institutionalize the Culture of Death continue. “Senate health care bill is morally unacceptable” (USCCB) CatholicNewsAgency.com/new.php?n=17788.

Update:  Passage of a House pro life amendment (supported by Cong. Steve Driehaus and Jean Schmidt) prohibits use of Federal funds for some abortions.  That’s good news, though sadly, NOT ALL preborn child killing is prohibited; "to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion" except in cases of rape, incest or danger to the life of the mother.  These exceptions mean that someone who has been brutalized by the crime of rape or incest can additionally be wounded by the violence of taking of her child’s life; the innocent child, whose father is a criminal, is the other victim in the crime but tragically may be killed. www.FeministsforLife.org

Additionally, in Catholic teaching and common sense, “danger to the life of the mother” does not have to come up at all in the discussion:  aborting a child saves no one’s life.  While abortion is always wrong, if the mother’s life is in danger, every life-giving effort may of course be made, along with efforts to protect the life of her child.  With no intent to actively harm the pre-born child, harm and death may still come secondarily to the child in the course of trying to save the life of the mother/the life of the child.  The pivotal delineation is morally no one may actively seek to actually kill the child in the misguided attempt to save the mother and vice versa…no one may seek to actively kill the mother to “save the child”.

Largely unnoticed, euthanasia and assisted suicide coverage has not been explicitly prohibited in any health bill.  Just like abortion was ‘regulated in’ to federal law before the Hyde Amendment stated some prohibition (over 300,000 children had already died…with our tax monies), these evils may loom larger than all the abortion deaths.  Currently legal in two states, euthanasia and assisted suicide are not mentioned by name in the bills though two of the authors of sections of the House bill were also advocates for the Culture of Death in these states (Family Research Council frc.com).  Would coverage be transported/mandated/’regulated in’ unless explicitly prohibited?

The pro life HealthPostcards.com will be giving a second urgent appeal to legislators…updated cards will be repeated after Masses the weekend before Christmas.

There are much better ways to help protect the vulnerable and those in need that are less life threatening and more cost saving to families than these “health” bills.  Pray.
